Being a private pilot the WartHog is probably the one war bird that I could probably learn to fly easily at least around the pattern a few times. Dang I want to do that. Love the A-10.

I use this method often. There is one other tip that I have never heard anyone say. If you see an eBay item up for bid that you really want to bid on and there are no bids on it yet - make the minimum bid right then. That will lock it in place for bidding. There was an item I wanted quite badly and I was going to snipe it, put it in my watch list and just hours before it was due to end the item literally disappeared and I found out the seller pulled it from bid. Ahhhhh...... I was not happy bout that. I have sold on eBay and I was able to pull items early that had no bids on them.

When you (I) think about buying SIRI in 2008, don't buy that small amount you did buy, buy a ton of it. Borrow $ to buy it. In 10 years you will be rich.

abstractist72. Howdy and I feel your pain. I am also 70+ and cut my teeth for a hundred years on film. And digital is a challenge and here is why. When I took flying lessons my instructor, who is older than me by the way, said that he wished I was younger (40 at the time) because older guys are much harder to train than younger types. I was skeptical and he explained. The older guys had already learned many ways of doing things and have many preconceived notions. Much deprogramming that had to be done before the new stuff could be programmed in. He suggested that it would take many more hours than normal to get me my ticket. Well, I stuck with it and only took 2 more hours than the average to get my ticket. I am now trying to get the hang of this DSLR. The first hint that I may actually succeed was that last week ISO became instinct and completely forgot about ASA. A small breakthrough. Chin up 'ol buddy and you'll be in the air soon.

I was born and raised in California. 70 now. Many cashiers just cannot count cash. I always gave when convenient a larger bill and change hoping for one piece of paper to put back in my wallet. Most of the time they had a problem with that. Often wondered what they were teaching them in school. Last year I moved to North Carolina. So for almost a year now I have not had that problem once. Go figure.

I really love these. Thank you. I also appreciate the info you provided about how they were taken.
As I am learning digital that is very helpful. Again, thanx. Ric

I say go for it. You will have a great experience and learn something and later you will be glad you did. In the late 70's I attended a Pacer game in Indianapolis, had my Yashica ElectroX and noticed the photographers sitting under the hoops on floor at both ends. I nervously got up from my seat, snuck down there and followed a couple of guys who were adjusting their positions, acted the same as them and took a lot of clicks. Great shots, fun, and a fine way to watch the game. Nobody even noticed I wasn't press. Have fun!

Thanks, I will post some when I figure out this computer called a Nikon 3200 I picked up for my training. I hope to upgrade to a full frame at some point but my grey matter is jello with all this new terminology. But it is great fun working on this task. And the members discussing so many issues is a fine way to learn. Thank you all for that. Ric

I am enjoying this forum for several weeks now and the pic of UP 844 yesterday prompted me to write.

Several years ago I, with my brother, had the great opportunity to witness the GS-4 Southern Pacific Daylight run up the San Joaquin Valley on it's way to Sacramento. Phil & I picked up the train at Fresno and he took the video on VHS. He had extra tape and batteries. We had a wonderful time passing 4449 going up Hwy 99 and allowing it to pass under us while standing on overpasses. We just knew that the video was going to be fantastic. We returned home after many hours of chasing and got set up to view the footage. Excited about such a wonderful day filming our mouths dropped to the floor as we watched the tape. All we saw was the rocks and shoes at our feet as we waited to bring up the camera and start up. We also saw the seat of the car as we traveled up the highway. At the beginning and end of each filming we saw a quick glimpse of that beautiful engine - then it was gone until the next set and we'd see the engine as the camera was returned to it resting place. It was at that point he screamed that he thought the red light in the view finder meant that 'record' was in progress but it was the opposite. We still laugh about that. And enjoy the DVD we had to buy to replace that crazy tape.

Thank you for a great forum that I read every day. I come from film but stopped clicking 30 years ago. Need to learn all over again. Hard to believe I have forgotten so much. Again, thanx. Ric
