I am enjoying this forum for several weeks now and the pic of UP 844 yesterday prompted me to write.
Several years ago I, with my brother, had the great opportunity to witness the GS-4 Southern Pacific Daylight run up the San Joaquin Valley on it's way to Sacramento. Phil & I picked up the train at Fresno and he took the video on VHS. He had extra tape and batteries. We had a wonderful time passing 4449 going up Hwy 99 and allowing it to pass under us while standing on overpasses. We just knew that the video was going to be fantastic. We returned home after many hours of chasing and got set up to view the footage. Excited about such a wonderful day filming our mouths dropped to the floor as we watched the tape. All we saw was the rocks and shoes at our feet as we waited to bring up the camera and start up. We also saw the seat of the car as we traveled up the highway. At the beginning and end of each filming we saw a quick glimpse of that beautiful engine - then it was gone until the next set and we'd see the engine as the camera was returned to it resting place. It was at that point he screamed that he thought the red light in the view finder meant that 'record' was in progress but it was the opposite. We still laugh about that. And enjoy the DVD we had to buy to replace that crazy tape.
Thank you for a great forum that I read every day. I come from film but stopped clicking 30 years ago. Need to learn all over again. Hard to believe I have forgotten so much. Again, thanx. Ric

Ric, Welcome to the forum. Look forward to see some of your images. Stan
Thanks, I will post some when I figure out this computer called a Nikon 3200 I picked up for my training. I hope to upgrade to a full frame at some point but my grey matter is jello with all this new terminology. But it is great fun working on this task. And the members discussing so many issues is a fine way to learn. Thank you all for that. Ric
Welcome to the Forum Ric, enjoy.
Welcome to UHH Ric, glad you joined us.
Have fun, learn and enjoy the forum.
