Id be interested in any user experiences regarding the iphone 13 camera.
I have an rx10m4 and rx100m3 and for whatever reason, excellent though it is I find the rx10m3 is hardly ever used these days.
Mainly due to compatability issues with streaming music to my audio set up at home I traded in my old Huawei P30 pro which although excellent in low light tended to sharpen photos too much for my liking.
Anyway Ive found the iphone 13 to be excellent in every way apart from one glaring omission...it doesnt have any sort of manual mode where you can set the shutter speed to avoid blur etc. To do that you have to buy the Camera +2 app which I find to be not very user friendly and the readout is so tiny that its impossible for me to read the shutter speed settings unless I remember to carry my reading glasses.
Has anybody else had similar problems with the iphone?

I was literally just thinking the same thing. Its really not difficult......if youre the type that likes to zoom in on people or objects...take the longest telephoto lens you have. If that lens starts at too long a focal length either take a shorter length lens......or throw caution aside and take both. Its not rocket science.

Same thing happened to me a few years ago. I said yes when asked but I wouldnt do it again.A lot of stress involved. I had a 5diii 24-105 and 70 -200 and flashlight . They were happy with the results but they didnt want professional staged photos anyway. Good luck

This a just a question for any hoggers who have an iPhone and who use the camera+2 app.
There are 2 raw options on the app…raw and raw+. Whichever one I use, the saved photo shows in the info as raw and jpeg but when I export the photo to my mac(there is only one) it is saved as only a jpeg….at about 4 mb.
There is an option in the apps settings to combine the raw and jpeg files. It doesn’t matter if that is on or off as the files are still only about 4mb. There is no option in settings to save in raw….only jpg, heif or tiff.
If I use the iPhone camera and take a photo in raw then it saves as a dng file which is what I’d expect.
Am I missing something or is the raw option in camera+2 a complete waste of time?

Just a thought..do you have anti virus software on it?.....or even stuff like clean my mac......those programs created havoc with my machine until I deleted them all

It takes a while to set up . A lot of the options on mine are turned off as Ill never use them. There are 3 buttons you can assign to things like metering, focus etc for quick recall which are really useful. The touch screen on mine is also turned off due to the fact my nose kept touching it which in turn altered the focus area. Not a big deal though. Fantastic camera ...no regrets

I was looking through a window at a zoo into a a room which had a concrete bench and a tiger sprawled out on it. Camera at the ready for any sudden movement. Suddenly the tiger charged at the window, scared me to death but I somehow managed a couple of clicks. On review I basically got a black screen as the camera had been on 1/500 and there wasnt much light available.
Unbelievably when I got home the d810 raw file was such that I was able to get a very usual shot out of it via ligjtroom which I couldnt actually believe would be possible.
Moral of story...always shoot in raw when youre expecting a tiger to charge at you

The only thing that has changed my photography in 2021 is Covid....the inability to travel to far off places...or anywhere else of interest has just about killed off my passion for photography. When youve lived in the same area for years and photographed just about everything of interest its now the equivelent of driving down a dead end street.
Im sure others wont feel the same though...in which case...continue to enjoy your photography.

Ok...Ill try the F button to go to full screen. I still prefer to keep the edited photos in Photos rather than Lightroom though. When you import raw files into Lightroom Ive noticed that the original files are imported into the Pictures folder on my mac so if I ever need to acces the raw files again....I can find them quite easily....horses for courses...to each his own

As others have said....the confusing part of Lightroom is the catalogue. Personally I dont keep any photos in Lightroom on a permanent basis......I use it only for editing and found that its not too hard to get to grips with, especially with the amount of help available on line. After editing I export to apple photos which I think gives a much bigger screen area in which to view. I then keep them in albums which are easy to find. If I want to tweek them later I can always access either lightroom or photoshop directly from Apple photos.
