This might sound stupid of me, but does anyone know how to get pictures from an I Phone to a windows PC and have them on the PC in .JPG?

My wife & I just returned from a Vacation and she took a lot that I would love to save.
I don't use an I phone and have never done this before.
Thanks for any help.

I just attach them to an email to myself, then I can save them to my laptop.

I hope someone else posts an easier way.

Use the charging cord that comes with the iPhone, or a similar replacement. Turn on the computer, log in, and wait for it to start running Windows.

Plug the ‘lightning’ connector into the phone and the USB connector into the computer.
In a moment you should see a small notice that it has been recognized. If you click on that notice it should open a directory window. If you miss the notice, look in the directory under ‘my computer’ for the hard drive and connected devices. One of them should have a letter in front of it and say iPhone. Click on that to open a directory.

From that directory you can copy and move files to a program or another directory.

Be careful. You can also delete files while you are in this directory. While this is useful if you are weeding out mistakes, you should be aware.

Not stupid. I had to ask someone myself and I'm a Genius, at least that's what I tell our Grandkids!

You may prefer setting this up. Then you can simply download the photos to windows.

...while the above info tells you the how, there is another step...Apple now saves images in HEIC format. They say it saves space, the files are smaller than comparable jpegs. I just had to do this, and I'm all android on my phone plus the majority of my processing is done on PC's. Luckily there are several converters online (where you drag your shots in, and convert and save as directed). Tell you the truth, I've forgotten which one I used, but this one looks like it'll do the job: https://heictojpg.com/

Thanks ever so much.
I'll get into all this after X-Mas.

There are different ways to offload pics. Years ago I would use 123 touch copie- still using it.
Sandisk expand is an other way. And you can connect the phone directly to the computer
HEIC needs to be converted to jpeg.

Mine connects to Photos...in Windows 10. Works great for transferring videos.

Try an app called send anywhere....its brilliant. Just install to both devices and it works flawlessly.

On the iPhone, go to Settings-Photos and scroll down to Transfer to MAC or PC and select Automatic

Connect you iPhone to a USB port on the PC. Watch for a message on the iPhone and allow the PC to access its photos.

I don’t use the Photos app on the PC to copy the photos. Use Windows File Explorer, click on the iPhone device, scroll to its DCIM folder and Copy the photos to a desired Folder on your PC. If there are lots of photos there may be more than one DCIM folder.

Photos on my iPhone are saved as jpegs, which makes saving and transferring them much easier. Here’s how to do it:

Go to Settings on your iPhone.
Tap Camera. You will be shown some options like Formats, Grid, Preserve Settings, and Camera Mode.
Tap Formats, and change the format from High Efficiency to Most Compatible.
Now all your photos will be automatically saved as JPG instead of HEIC.

(1) email them to yourself
(2) load iCloud for Windows onto your PC and bring up the photos from the cloud (I think photos are sent to the cloud by default).

(2) is probably better long term because it also gives you access to other things the iPhone sends to the cloud. Also, you don't have to have the phone with you to do that. And if you're like me, you have set the phone down somewhere and can't find it.

Hopefully your grandkids weren't the ones you had to ask or they'll never believe your genius claims again. I know my grandkids are often my go to tech experts

...great advice. I'm not an Iphone person, so couldn't possibly give this info to my friend. Now I can!
