Wonderful photos, reminds me of the time I was there. I especially remember and love your Vic beach shot.

Did you vacation there or were you part of the military?

All the pics are great - thanks for sharing.

I really like "Near the South Coast" - glad you enjoyed your trip.

That picture was taken at about midnight. That is when the best light is.

I have just returned from my trip to Iceland. Drove around the perimeter of the island in five days! There are limitless photo ops in this country. Almost overwhelming. It does not get dark there during the summer months so you are only limited by how long you can stay awake. The "good light" exists between about 11:30 at night and 3am so you have to adjust your sleeping a bit. If you are not a point and shooter, it can be a bit exhausting. By the end of the week I was ready to put the camera away for awhile. I took more than a thousand photos. Here are a few I picked out

beautiful pics. i know what you mean. when i got back from alaska i had taken over 3000 pics. i love the horse one and the beach one best.

I would like to go to Alaska as well but Im afraid of wild animals. I think part of what attracted me to Iceland was the fact that there are no snakes, mosquitos, bears, cougars or any other thing that will eat you. I love to hike and get out in the wilderness but as I have gotten older I have become fearful of many things. It was so great to walk around the trails without being constantly on the lookout for a snake! Now if you are afraid of sheep....you are in trouble!

what brand zoom lens do you have to shoot the horse???
did you use A for setting on the camera??

The lens is a Nikkor AF-S 70-300. 4.5-5.6. I was using manual mode and set the f stop at 8 for more shallow DOF. Then I just metered it until the correct exposure was indicated. that put the shutter speed at 1/50. The original was slightly overexposed so I dropped the exposure down 1 stop in post ( I use aperture and have a lot to learn there ). The white balance was set for cloudy.

Breath taking. I really liked the horse - very nice composition. Very nice

Thanks ShaZam. Those Islandic horses are beautiful. They come in all colors. They are somewhat short and stocky with a very smooth gate. They do not allow other breeds into the country and once an Islandic horse leaves he cannot come back. I have heard that to buy one in the US is about 10 grand. They are all over the countryside, and also on the menus :(

what camera setting are you using and what lens as well
zomm or wide angle those pic a so sharp I almost got cut
ah ha ah ...
I have a Olympus E510 but not to impressed with the results of sharpness I have the KIT lens I do not know if they are that good..
Albert

I have the entry level Nikon d3000 and those wide landscapes were shot with the kit lens 18-55mm. I usually use f22 to get deep DOF and since the d3000 does not perform well at high ISOs I try not to go over 200. If it is low light I just use a tripod since the shutter speed has to be low to get proper exposure. The horse was my 70-300 as I did not want to get to close to the horses. It seems they are somewhat tired of having their picture made because they almost always turned their rear ends towards the camera. I wonder if they have not been spooked by camera flash. I will attach another horse shot since he cooperated. This picture was taken at about midnight!

I use aperture for PP and I am just guessing when it comes to that stuff.

Great to see some photos of a country not as often photographed here in UHH. I liked the black sand beach, the pony, beautiful and the reflecting scene best.

These pictures are not just a few pretty locations. The entire coast line is beautiful. You can take a picture like this anywhere. I did not travel into the interior so I don't know what that is like but the coast is astounding.

Looks like a beautiful country; I'm sure you have many good photos to choose from. These pictures are very well done. I especially like the landscapes, but the pony shot is great too. Looking forward to seeing some more of a part of the world not many seem to go to.

Thanks for having a look at the pictures. There are quite a few tourists there during the summer months but not many are American. The Icelandic people are able to speak English for the most part but most of the people you encounter are other tourist...lots of German. If you enjoy the outdoors, photography or hiking it is a great place to visit. We had to save for quite awhile to go. Everything there cost about twice as much as it does in the states. However, it cost less than a week in Hawaii. The flight is less than six hours from JFK too!

I like all the things you spoke about. Will definitely have to look into Iceland for a future backpacking trip. Thanks for the info.

There were LOTS of backpackers there. We spoke to one fella who had hiked and camped for five days on the Volcano that erupted in 2010. He said it was the best time he had ever had. The weather is July is much like late fall here in the Carolinas. 50-60 degree temps. Can be kinda damp on the south coast
