Thanks everyone for your information. It is most appreciated.

Good Morning,

I relied on the 200-500 w/1.4 prior to purchasing the 500 PF 5.6. Whenever this type of question is raised the ‘I never user a TC’ pseudo-elitist false-purists emerge en masse. Reach is reach and there is no substitute. And the high-end fast prime telephotos are simply not realistic purchases for many, including myself. And one cannot always ‘take a few steps closer.’

The 150-600 G2 w/ 1.4 is a touch soft at 840; the 200-500 w/1.4 at 700 less so.

Ignore the anti-TC bias and enjoy either combo! (:

I have a bunch of insulated water bottle holders/with belt loops. They work for everything from lenses general tote space for batteries, memory cards, candy bars (don't tell!), and yes water bottles. They come pretty small, so try one inside the mesh, they'll certainly contain the pod legs.

My backpack does not have a dedicated tripod holder. I've since downsized considerably to a new travel tripod. The only way to carry it is to place the foot end down into one of the side mesh pockets on the side and secure with the included strap lock on the top part. Is there anything I could put into the mesh pocket to prevent the tripod feet from snagging and tearing the mesh itself. I've done a lot of research but have not seen any products or suggestions on what might work. I appreciate in advance any suggestions the UHH community might have.

You might consider the water bottle carriers made from webbing and elasticized cord. Check Amazon.

If your camera company came out with a firmware that would drastically improve your camera, to the latest specs, would you pay for this firmware?

You would not have to buy the newest camera from your camera company, reduce the supply shortage and your camera would be top of the line for another couple of years.

We all hope the new technology in the newest cameras gets passed down to other cameras but many of us go out and buy a new camera with all the new bells and whistles. Example the Sony a9 3, comes out with new bells and whistles. If you could buy that firmware and install those bells and whistles on your Sony a9 2, would you make that purchase? I think most people are happy with their camera bodies, an update firmware at a reasonable price might be the way to go.
Your thoughts?

Argh! The last thing this list needs is another TROLL topic. Especially a topic that attracts Hoggers seeking something for nothing or providing an opportunity to complain about payment for a third party’s intellectual property.

This forum is a fair cross section of photographers generally. Numerically less expensive consumer oriented cameras far outsell flagship or enthusiast models. That is reflected here. By and large the quality of work shared by others in the gallery and sub groups also runs at average levels.

You do no favors by inciting discussions as to brands. No one asked Picasso what brand of paint he used.

There has been a lot of talk about cell phone cameras. I would like to suggest a way to get insight into the difference between 8*10 or UHD TV or UHD monitor or UHD monitor.
Can pros tell the difference? On what criteria? Can amateurs tell the difference?

1) pick a few objects, a book, a knick-knack, a pet, a stop sign, a ruler, a piece of graph paper.
2) from a variety of positions and distances, take pairs of pictures 1 from each device.
3) for each pair flip a coin as to which to display first.
4) ask the person looking at the pair which is better? Which is from the phone?

Is there an arithmetical way to to compare zooming, moving closer, and cropping from a higher megapixel file?

I only use my phone for calls and drone flying. I could care less about who makes the best camera. If you want quality images buy a camera and a cheap phone. That's just me, though. Most people disagree with me.

So, no need to respond. Is there? Just one more cranky response encouraging me to unenroll.

I believe the optimum method is to leave quality at 100% and reduce the resolution (number of pixels). That of course depends on whether the loss of resolution is acceptable (in most cases it will be). You should be able to specify the number of pixels along the long edge. Getting the file size right will involve some trial and error.

Aren’t quality and resolution linked?
If it's not too critical and you have the option to do so, just specify the maximum file size (many PP editors have that option). Most uncondensed jpegs have quite a lot of wiggle room so the loss of quality will in most cases be negligible.

Typically resolution matters only for prints. Any on-screen viewing typically requires far less resolution than the original file had.

Here's why:

-The Smartphone is ALWAYS with me. Fewer opportunities for greatness are missed. lol, as if.

-I no longer have to download images from cards onto my laptop, to work them in Photoshop.

-Photos taken on my smartphone are loaded to the "cloud" automatically, and accessible from my laptop for post-processing and sharing.

-My Nikon is 6Mp, the smartphone is 12Mp.

-Smartphone is almost always in my pocket, when I leave the house.

-Weight: ounces vs. pounds.

-I will still use the Nikon for Studio work. I don't use a studio anymore, lol.

-I can make a call or text from the smartphone, not so with my Nikon.

-I would have mentioned the cost of film, but that ship sailed long ago. I know some people are probably still promoting the value of film. Luddites.

Good job by office supply store!!

OP: are you out of your mind? If so determined to have something to hold, go through the PDF and print just the relevant page range to whatever issue you need to physically hold. What do you need a title page for? Or the fine print pages? Or sections on features you know without reading, or features you won't use? Are you a photographer or a tree-killing book collector?

Get comfortable with 'text find' so you can quickly let the computer scan the entire electronic document and take you directly to the relevant section you then read and absorb electronically. Printing just those pages, if absolutely necessary.
