I think all the pics are great. Your model makes the job easy. My only suggestion would be to watch the lighting. I some photos, the shine from her face and nose is bright and distracting to me. This can probably fixed in LR or PS. Otherwise, you are spot on I think.

Maybe you want to pass up on this contest and do some learning on how to make sharp interesting photos.

Black birds against a bright sky never works.

Thank you IDguy

They really are great memories for me also, and looking at your poor battered black swallowtail in the second image reminded me of some in a similar condition which we had last fall. The black swallowtails would float along slowly over the blooming lantana and butterfly bushes in our perennial garden and the ruby-throated hummingbird would fly out and sometimes take a plug out of its wings because it considered the garden its territory.

The second was actually hitching a ride on our car. Thanks for your comments.

I love this couple. They walk everyday they can. Rarely is one around and the other not far away.

Love at any age

#3 & 4 are gold finches.

Had 4 of them flying about. Very usual, very hyper active. Will work on a better pic next time. Thanks for your information.

Please note that im not a heavy duty birder but the 1st one looks more like a Red bellied Woodpecker. They are fairly common in the Mid to Eastern parts of America.

Unless imature, the Red-headed Woodpecker does not have a white-black barred back.

I was not sure. He was very interested in checking the wood of every tree he came to. Thanks.

Seeing many birds lately that I do not know (not that I know many). Wanted to share and maybe get some names. The birds I think are some type of finch were very jittery and would not give a clean pose.

Red Headed Woodpecker maybe

Coopers Hawk maybe

the first and third were actually taken at our church. They have flower patch that attracts many butterflies. The second was at our home.

You have received some very useful advice here. So not sure if my suggestion will be helpful or not. First I have a D3300 and have not been very happy with anything above a 8x10 print size. I do not blame equipment, it is my fault for not taking the needed time to produce better work. The suggestion of a tripod, and cable release would do wonders. Keeping the ISO down does wonders also. This will dictate camera speed but you will see a difference. As for changing to an FX camera, getting technique down can only make work done with an FX type camera better. You will know when to buy the FX you need.

Since you are probably looking for primary storage and not necessarily backup, I would avoid the 4 TB-$100 category of hard drives. The major drive manufacturers all make heavier duty drives than the ones typically found inside MyBooks, Passports etc. Buy a bare drive rated for RAID or Enterprise use, which may cost you cost to $200 for a 4 TB, and a USB 3 case, which should work with your Mac. It takes all of 5 minutes to install a drive in a case, and some cases offer tool-free installation. You do get what you pay for, and $100-$110 for a drive is really too cheap. The more expensive drives have 5 yr warranties, usually with express replacement. Unless you can find a case that offers Thunderbolt 3 and your computer also has the same capability, wasting money on a fast SSD only to force data through the USB 3 bottleneck will only be frustrating.
Since you are probably looking for primary storage... (show quote)
