When you are in Balboa Park, time permitting, I would visit the San Diego Model Railroad Museum.
Ticket prices are reasonable and the details that have gone into the model train displays is truly amazing!
I love visiting this museum and I'm not really a "train person".
They occasionally add new exhibits and have several that are always on display:

Also, in Balboa Park is the Spanish Village (located between the zoo and the park) that has all sorts of artists' offerings in all sorts of media as listed here: "painters, sculptors, metalsmiths, jewelry designers, clay artists, gourd artists, photographers, printmakers, fiber artists, basket makers, mixed-media artists, glass artists, enamel artists"...

In San Diego, succulents are a very common addition to landscaping these days. They are not forgotten here…
