Don’t confuse low light with bad light. You had sufficient light, diffused by the clouds, which eliminated any harsh shadows, making for some very nice images. A great photographer once said “There is no such thing as bad light, only bad use of light”.

I had a "get off my lawn" moment. Some out of towners (see!) were kayaking and blasting a radio, asking each other if there were any fish in the lake. When It started to rain they left.
People from around these parts don't know that the rain usually only lasts less than an hour and is intermittent.
With the last bit of light the Heron caught a fish and looked at me as if to say, "get off my lake".

This Heron and I sat in the rain until it got dark. Shots a bit grainy because of inexperience and the lack of light.

Amstel Adams would have been happy to get a shot as beautiful as this!

Much of Amstel Adams work is recognizable as his unique style. While I can not explain what sets his work apart I know it’s his work when I see it, perhaps it’s his use of the full tonal scale. If style is the wrong descriptor what else should we call it?

I understand your comment on being against the idea. But you also pointed out "some photographers personal style is well-defined and identifiable".
hence I am asking which or who is the photographer that you know, who has a clearly identifiable style and what are the particulars of his style that makes it identifiable.

Because I believe, that is where categorizing things becomes useful if not important.
Categorizing is understanding things on a deeper level. If i love a certain style, then understanding what is the essence or make-up that produce such style means i can re-create what i love and enjoy it more.

This is called a murmuration and is frequently seen in some parts of the world. Google murmuration and you can view these in motion. Quite a sight.

I hope the doctors did as good a job on your issue as you did with these flowers! Speedy recovery.

Just before I went into the hospital, I took a set of emerging flowers in our yard during the early morning light.

This set makes my bouquet to the many Hogs whose kind words were deeply appreciated.

I must have anticipated my hospitalization because I took over 400 shots the two days before I went in.

Comments and suggestions are always appreciated.

Nice House Finch images! How do you keep squirrels off the feeder on the Shepherds Crook?

Started a new brand of Finch food and the activity has been wonderful. I missed the Gold Finches for this set, unfortunately. Next time.

Do they still have the small water Lilly pool? Went there often about 5 - 10 years ago and got great shots of dragon flies in the morning.

Swimming underwater they get completely wet. No trouble, they just need to remove the weight of water before flying.

Great set Mike, he sure managed to get himself thoroughly soaked before getting out of the water. They have no natural waterproofing like most water birds and can get themselves in real trouble if they get too wet

Linda, The change from smack dab centered to an almost 1/3 in from the left of the main point of focus makes for a much more dynamic image. Still up to your always very interesting images. Glad you’re back.

Get the Cornell Lab Merlin Bird ID App. It IDs birds from your photo, provides birds sounds, can I’d your bird from its song captured on your iPhone. I was listening to its recording of a Northern Cardinal and a Cardinal came to me to check out the source of the sound!

But then the subject would be much smaller. The other “rule” correctly applied here is “fill the frame”!
You might also consider putting the eye in the 1/3 down. 1/3 in spot.

Placing the center of interest in the middle of the image. I would have put it at one of the intersections of the rule of thirds.
