Just walked out of a clinic after finishing a physical exam required for getting insurance at the University of Maryland. I had finished all my doctoral course work and was being hired as an Instructor while completing my dissertation. Truly shocking.

I owned a XK150 DHC in the late 60’s - bought and sold it for $1K. Then, moved on to a couple of XKE’s and miscellaneous other Jags.

As a veteran who never experienced combat, the next best (worst) thing might be the movie Band of Brothers based on the Ambrose book about a company in the 101st airborne. My uncle served in the 101st but never really spoke about it. I know he was dropped behind the German lines on D-Day and a couple of more times later. The movie is very visceral. I think it’s good to remind ourselves what Fascism can lead to as it rears its ugly head again (NOT a political statement).

I took that trip in reverse in 2010 and used my D300 with an 18-200mm lens. I could frame the castles very well.
I’ve added a collage to give some idea of the field of view.

All these comparisons are meaningless without adjusting for inflation. I bought a nice 3 bedroom split level on a corner lot for $19.2K in 1963 but $6-7K was a decent income at that time. Then I bought a new Jag XKE roadster in 1968 for $5900 - should have kept it.
