Since Samuel Benjamin Bankman-Fried, has been convicted of fraud, and was the number 2 donator to the Democratic Party, behind Soros, will those Dems who received contributions from him have to return the ill gotten gains so the victims can be compensated for their losses?

I guess they'll have to sell Bibles or sneakers to make up the difference.

Post WW II but pre-nuclear?

Interesting story about submarine design. Right after the war, Charles "Swede" Momsen (famous for developing the Momsen lung) was asked to figure out a way to increase the speed of submarines moving underwater. He threw out conventional surface ship design philosophy and looked at nature, specifically the Tuna as having the least water resistance. His prototype was, (wait for it) the Albacore. Naturally, naval leaders were skeptical until he challenged the navy to a race. Not only did the Albacore "swim circles" around older subs, it outran the fastest destroyer; something considered impossible. The rest is history as all nuclear subs use Momsen's "tuna"design.

Self-regulating?

FAA is not involved?

Yes, self-regulating. The FAA commonly allows Boeing (and others) to self-certify safety and quality control procedures partly because the FAA lacks the staff to oversee every step of construction on every plane being built. As others said here, it wasn’t a problem until shareholder returns and company profits became more important than quality and safety.

So melodic!! So many popular "tunes" have been derived from this concerto. Bravo Sergio Rachmaninoff.

As a teenager, my mother went to a Rachmaninov concert. Most people think he lived during the time of Mozart and Beethoven but he was actually contemporary. Anyone who’s ever played his work will tell you how difficult his compositions were but he had an advantage in that he had extraordinarily long fingers (2-octave spread?). Jimi Hendrix was similarly blessed which allowed him to do on guitar, what few others could.

Love his work but my all time favorite is Dvorak’s Symphony No. 9 (New World Symphony) sometimes describe as the most beautiful symphony ever written.

I was a state-certified health inspector in Connecticut and we had a state Commissioner who oversaw our enforcement of the Connecticut Public Health Codes. The Codes covered food sanitation, insect and rodent infestation, public beaches, dairy operations, septic systems, day care centers, restaurants and more. These all affect public health but require far more comprehensive knowledge than just for medical issues so it makes sense to have someone who isn’t necessarily an MD but rather someone with broader expertise.

I gotta admit I rather like the idea of the air conditioner hooked up to the tents. As for the port-johns on fire, I've been to many an outdoor concert where that might have been a blessing. I've often wondered how much extra those companies charge to provide them at concerts where 10 or 20 thousand drink/stoned/sick kids haphazardly emptied their innards into them. A good, sanitizing fire might be the only way to take clean them.

It's ever so slightly comforting to see it's not just buffoon Americans doing all the damage. I noticed the last photos are from Yellowstone. National Park officials have commented that we "are loving our national parks to death." It doesn't even take destructive idiots to adversely affect these treasures; the sheer number of people trampling across them are causing serious problems.

Humorous scenes...thanks for sharing!!

Hey…. I gotta ask, if no one else will… How do the cliff side campers relieve themselves? They can’t be carrying collection bags or bottles; too much extra weight. Sooooo…..?

Yeah, it is so much more logical to pay $120 a year for something with hundreds more actions and processes than are needed rather than a free, simple and easy program that does what the amateur wants and needs to get the photos he/she wants with the lower cost older DSLR they have owned for the past decade.

I agree; a lot of my needs (crop, exposure adjust, filter effects, histogram, etc.) are met by the simple editing program Apple provides with their Photos app.

Then there's always the moralistic point of view. I remember making the one-time purchase of a set of floppies off the rack and installing the program on my desktop. Buy a new computer? Just haul out the discs and install it on that computer. Then we went to a one-time download purchase price. A more amorphous form of ownership but at least I'd permanently own the rights to the program. Today, it galls me no end that I would have to pay a monthly rental fee and I'd never actually own anything. It's why I went with Affinity that has far more capabilities than I need but at least it's a one-time purchase (updates included in purchase price).

Let's not forget that in the old film days, we basically had no post processing capabilities other than what the developer applied and yet we somehow ended up with good pictures.

Gotta add a '32 Ford Coupe and a '57 Chevy Bel Air. These were both innovative at the time they were developed and the Boomers' top choice for creating the first hot rods back in the '60's.

As much as we (Boomers) hated them, mini-vans also defined a generation from when we all started families and had to give up our "babe magnet" muscle cars for something "more practical for a family."

I get the same ads, along with others like, "car for $78 per month" and "Senior housing for $235 per month." Clicking on any of them simply takes you to a site that wants your name and contact information so a salesperson can contact you with "prices in your area." I don't understand how such completely false advertising is allowed to continue but then again, who's going to stop them if the web site's okay with it (including this one).

Interesting but not surprising that not a single American car is in the top 10 and even relative newcomer Kia beat out the top rated American car. I know pretty much all the "foreign" cars are assembled in America but the reason they're all at the top, is that they have better quality control standards than Detroit seems willing to implement.

Here in the colonies we pensioners get what we call Social Security. Once a. year we get a cost of living increase. We also have another wonderful government medical service called Medicare. Most of the increase in the cost of living increase is eaten up by the Medicare premium increase.. While not as bad as your situation similar.

"Most of the increase...is eaten up by Medicare premium increases" and the rest is eaten up by inflation. Too many humans = too much demand = rising prices. A tiny bit comforting to hear America isn't the only country with this problem.

As I've said before, "Critics Thinking," that is, the research and compilation of verified facts into a proven truth takes time and work. Blindly accepting something someone tells you as being true (like these "experiments"), does not. There are a lot of lazy, gullible people out there.

If you wanted to order a complete set for a delivery truck to navigate through London and suburbs, there'd be no room for the merchandise, just a whole library of cassette tapes guiding from every possible point to every other possible point.

That's the way I saw it. So if I wanted to go to my friend's house in the next town, I'd have one cassette but if I wanted to visit another friend in that town but the next street over, I'd need a different cassette even though 95% of the route would be the same for both? Nice try!
