Take the subway (blueline I believe) and get off the first stop in Brooklyn. Walk back 1/4 mile to a park near the base of the bridge overlooking Manhatten. Grab a coffee and watch the sun set near the Statue of Lib and photo the lights of the city as the dark takes over. This is also a nice early morning shoot. Walk back over the bridge grabbing photos on the walk over. Watch out for bicyles as you walk. Once back in Manhatten , your near City Halll and not far from Little Italy/China town. Stop for a Slice of Pizza or some of the best Chinese food. So much to see, just walk and shoot. I found 35mm and wide angle to be the best lenses to have with.

similar situation here. Canon 5dm3 and 7dm2. I use most all L glass. I did this a few years ago and this is what I learned, feel today. I went with Sigma 85mm 1.4 and was thrilled with it. So down the line I picked up the Sigma Art 50mm 1.4 and found I used it much more. it's a great portriat lens as well a walk around. I find a use prime more over zoom and like what it forces me the shooter to do. Having a 70-200 L 2.8 I can get the coverage in the pinch of the 85mm with similar (but not the same) results. I recently picked up a 100mm 2.8 macro and now feel I will use the 85mm even less. In fact I will probably part with it. Like others I have put the 50 on the 7dm2 and get 78mm out of it, I think. As well I have the 35mm Art from Sigma and can use it on crop sensor and get 58mm from it. I love everything about the Sigma brand and for the price I have many more lenses in my bag for the same price as one L series Canon. Taking nothing away from Canon L glass. I have many. Hope that helps and keep in mind I could be selling the Sigma 85.

I set up the same way and just before I hand off the camera to a family member I put it in Green mode and that sends focus back to the shutter botton. I figure if I have to explain how to focus, I will also have to explain how to adjust, so I take all that off the table and dumb it down for them. Or, I use a tripod and remote trigger. good luck

A few weeks ago I picked up a Canon 100mm 2.8L and I like it fine, but it is my first so have nothing to compare it to. Some reading and overthinking has me thinking I need/wanted more reach, so I found a great deal on a Sigma 150mm 2.8 {non OS}. So I have more reach and the same amount of light. Prices were close and I will sell one of them. Being a non macro shooter, I don't know what to look for in one or the other as far as what make one better. I do think that more reach is in my favor. I would like to hear from those (only those please) that have used/tried them both and your feedback. your pros and cons. Why did you choose one over the other and what type of shooting you might do so I can relate to your use. Thank you in advance for your time.

On my way to NYC for a friends wedding.(you recall I just asked what lens would be your walk around) . Well the friend just asked last minute if I would shoot some video. He hired a photog but not a video. He said, whatever you can get here and there would be great. Not the wedding but just the reception. So my question is what lens ?? Sigma 35 1.4 Art or 50 1.4 Art or 17-40 f4 L Canon. ??/ His daughter is going to sing, and the speaches from the best man...... maybe a dance ...... you know. Thanks in advance. By the way I DONT shoot video. based on a few u tube vids I plan to shoot 1/50 at 5.6 or so. suggestions of course. Auto iso or ??? I know, I know. last minute. I know. .....

I was in NYC a while back and I'm a Nikon guy. But, I didn't want to carry a heavy FX camera with the 28-300 lens I normally use for a walk around lens. I opted for my mirrorless Sony NEX7 with 18-35 lens and it was perfect. The camera is very sharp, light and didn't scream "photographer." I got some great shots. Of course, the Nikon rig would be useful as a weapon if needed. :)

While there, visit the International Center for Photography. They usually have a good exhibition going on.

weather forcast will dictate the dress code and I may end up with a small shoulder bag with raincoat...... and if so I will take a 2nd lens. My f1.4 Sigma ART 35 and 50 will give me enough light to shoot at night and I think they would be a better carry then the 24-105 f4. then again a wide lens like 17-40 f4 could make for some great photos as well. I see some test shots happening tomorrow. lol. thanks

Thanks, yes I am a birder and I could spend the entire day in Cpark. would hope to save that for an extended stay and set a full day in the spring, but thanks for the insight. Not looking to shoot people, but if the moment is real, I will snap it. Leaning towards the 35, but I know the 50 will force me to be more creative with my own position. thanks again.

Thanks Old Tigger. I've been thinking 50 on a full frame or 35 as moving around in the crowded city could be tought and I can always crop in. I will be shooting from the street level for the most part , during the day as well at night.

would love to hear from those only that have been to nyc and what lens you used, or better yet, what one lens do you wish you would have taken. I am headed there for a wedding over Thanksgiving and will have about one full day to myself to walk the streets..... I wont have full kit with me, and will be taking a full frame Canon 5dm3.
Thanks in advance for any/all input.

Tomorrow being Friday and 9/11 the local hschool is having Veterans and football players stand together during the National Anthem. I have been hired by local paper to shoot the game and that being a large part of the game want/need to shoot the line of players and vets. My question is ,... Is it ok to be shooting during the National Anthem (by law or law of photographers). I am not asking for opinions but first hand knowledge of is it ok. As I Veteran I expect respect for......... as a photographer working .....?? Again, don't give me your opinion, I just wonder if there is any code we stand by when working. ?? Thanks in advance
