👍👍 Since there have been several threads bashing the post office recently, I’m pleased to see one that’s more balanced and appreciative of the job they do with limited resources, at a comparatively low cost, under difficult conditions.

I find that the postal carriers are usually hardworking and nice. It’s the ones working at the post office that have a chip on their shoulders and can be nasty. Between those employees and the overall poor performance of the postal system it can often be a bad experience. That is why people bash the USPS.

Something is wrong with the lens, your camera, or your settings. You might want to call and talk to someone at Canon before ditching what should be a wonderful lens.

Point taken about calling Canon Support. Will give that a try today before deciding to return the lens. I will say that when i gave up I swapped out the lens for my rf 24-70mm and that worked just fine right from the start.

Anyhow, thanks for the advice and as I said will call canon today.

Purchased the new canon rf 50mm 1.8 last week and received today. Given I have a couple of the rf L lenses I thought I would try one of their more economical lenses as a lightweight walkaround lens on my r5. Boy, i don’t think i have ever been as disappointed in a lens ever. Took many pics and for most part there was a great deal of focus hunting. Pics weren't even close to being sharp. I checked settings multiple times to ensure I didn't accidentally trigger something I shouldn’t have. Once you turn on the camera the focus motor on the lens just keeps going very loudly. After a few hours of taking pics and checking settings i gave up. Will be returning it tomorrow.

I will take a slightly different approach. Since you are shooting the Canon R, consider going with the new RF 100 -500. A bit more expensive but with the extra reach (500mm vs 400mm) and the cropping advantage of the R over the Mk iii, I think that this will give you what you are looking for.
Another option for long reach is the new RF 800mm f11 IS. A reasonable price point and for outdoor shooting this is a great lens. With its IS, I was able to do quite a bit of hand held shooting on the Canon R. Good luck and stay safe

I have the Canon R5 and i am drooling about the thought of pairing with the rf 100-500mm lens. Thought i had one tonight but saw the “in stock” email notification too late.

As others have said, the weight difference between full frame dslr and mirrorless is really not there. That said, if you still do want to change over, the Canon R5 mated to their more pricey RF lenses is an absolute showstopper. I have the rf 24-70 f/2.8 and the pic’s produced are nothing less than stunning. Just ordered a refurbished rf 50mm f/1.2 and can’t wait to get it.

I was a Canon dslr fan but the lure to mirrorless hit me a while back. Canon had nothing significant so i jumped on the Sony bandwagon. Sony served me just fine but it wasn’t the same as Canon. When the R5 came out and I read the reviews I sold my Sony a7r iv, as well as, a few lenses to convert over to Canon. Best camera decision I have ever made. I have not looked back. My passion for photography has been re-ignited with this camera and rf lenses.

I intend to sell my Canon 5D mark 4 and lenses and tripods and discs. Are there any buyers for this?

Bob55, I would love to know more about the lenses in particular. Can you publish list of them along with pics? I live in your neck of the woods and we could always socially distance meet up at a local diner or something for the purchase/inspection. Thx.

Matt Granger can do what he wants, especially since he's doing it to get more views of his you tube videos. As for dumping Nikon gear, I have absolutely no intension of dumping any of my Nikon gear. Of my more than 15 interchangable lens cameras, only 3 are Nikon, a D7200, D500 and D850 and they all work just as good as when I bought them, so no reason to get rid of them. As for Nikon being behind in the mirrorless category, well, I don't own any Nikon mirrorless cameras and probably never will. I personally see no reason to dispose of my perfectly good Nikon DSLR'S for MILC'S because the end product, the images, produced by the MILC'S are really no better than those produced by DSLR'S.
I have nothing against mirrorless cameras, I happen to own a couple, both Canon, that I use with an adapter and my EF mount lenses. They work just fine. As for crop sensor mirrorless cameras, the current trend, along with top end models, appears to be relatively affordable and entry level full frame mirrorless cameras. The manufacturers will market what the people want to buy.

Know this is a bit off topic of the OP but, why do you have 15 different ILC’s? Just curious.

Duke University tested masks using lasers. The wanted to see how much came through various kinds of masks. Neck gaiters are so porous that, as the person exhales through it, the fabric breaks up the larger particles into smaller one which will hang around longer They say that if you can see light coming through your mask, or if you can easily blow through it, it's not doing its job.

Unfortunately, the purpose of a mask is to protect the public from the wearer, so if people insist on wearing gaiters or pulling their T-shirt up over their noses, the virus will continue to spread faster, as it has been doing lately.

Please all take this in the spirit it is meant.

1. Isnt this a photograohy forum?
2. The issue is specific to fleece neck gaiters made from a polyester and spandex blend. If you read the deets around the Duke study, they are clear to point out this is the only type of gaiter tested as a part of their study.

Let’s please do our best during this very difficult time for our country to be accurate, as there is so much sensationalism coming from all forms of media. Thanks.

Just bought a D4s from MPB. It had 63,000 on the shutter. Roberts camera “used photo pro” had one for more than what I paid and it had 525,000 activations. I recommend MPB highly. You can email them about any camera or lens and they will get back to you about your inquiry but, they normally post numerous close up images of all lenses and cameras and give some pretty detailed info on the equipment. KEH is also a solid place they just won’t give shutter counts.

MPB, Roberts Used and KEH only sell used, not refurbished. The OP is very specific about “refurbished”

Refurb ok if you know source. KEH I trust. Private seller not so much.

KEH doesn’t tend to sell refurbished. Can sometimes find at B&H or Adorama. Otherwise go to Nikon website directly.
