You may want to consider Pentax ... their bodies are well sealed and because they're all sealed there are many affordable options.

Some sellers do use the word "refurbished" in these kinds of cases, but I would stick to the word "repair" with some of the details that you described in your post. To me when someone uses the word "refurbished" loosely it's a signal that they're not a serious or knowledgeable photographer or photo shop and I tend to steer away from those unless I can get straight answers or feel like a gambling on a deal or something, but only if the stakes are low.

maybe say farewell to your lens instead? I wonder if you can find an equivalent or near-equivalent zoom that isn't as heavy as the one you use now. That could make a big difference.

If you sell them separately you are suck with an unpopular camera body.
It is a good lens, so you can ask the right price and sell them together
to get rid of the body, unless you really want to keep the body.

This could work against you. I got my pentax k1 on ebay after the seller agreed to separate the lens from the body. I just wanted the body (well, I WANTED the lens, a great new FF Pentax zoom, but I could only afford the second-hand body). Lucky for me he agreed ... and I was there and worked fast because apparently a lot of people were asking to buy just the body. This may flip for your lens.

I have the K1 and it's an amazing machine, especially for the price. Let me know if you have any specific questions. I'm a pentax user and already had FF lenses ... I can't compare it to Canon or another.

As long as you need an adapter there's no need to stick to Nikon, and there are superior mirrorless cameras out there.

I've really enjoyed Pete Souza's discussion of how he got some shots. He had to be vigilant yet unobtrusive at all times and really ended up compiling an impressive photographic record of an eight-year presidency.

K5, huh, Zudith? .... Love, Love, Love that dig cam ... thinking of getting a used one for just a couple hundred ... good buy, I think ...

Is that your fave, or do you like the K-7 better (or, the K-20) .... ???

BTW, Zudith ... an afterthought ... you keep up that Daily Walk ... that's very good for you - ok?

It's true about the daily walk!
I gave a k-7 to a nephew who is turning out to be something of a natural photographer--he really understands light and the mechanics of the camera and he's just a teenager. It's a wonderful machine.

There you are ... see - I didn't think it was on the K-3 ... but you seemed to indicate it was, by virtue of it being on the K-3II ....

I didn't think they could back-up built-in features ... although, it would be great, if you could - on cameras, huh?

Now, of course ... Sigma has introduced this USB upgrade port in lenses ... for downloading changes in the software ....

But - cameras - on this level? ... no can do ....

Your quote - from earlier, Larry ....

"Pixel shift was first introduced on the K-3II in 2014 so there are now four Pentax cameras available with Pixel Shift the K-1, KP, K-70 and the K-3. All Pentax cameras with IBIS are sensor shift either 3 axis of 5 axis.

Larry"

obviously he just left off the II when he listed the 4 cameras. Otherwise it would be 5 and that's clearly not what he meant. fyi

All Pentax D-FA and FA lenses cover full frame on the K-1. These are the ones currently in production according to the Ricoh US website:

HD PENTAX-D FA 15-30mm F2.8 ED SDM WR
smc PENTAX-FA 31mm f/1.8 Limited

HD PENTAX-D FA 150-450mm F4.5-5.6ED DC AW
smc PENTAX-FA 77mm f/1.8 Limited

So I make it 12 FF lenses. I believe you meant no harm in under reporting the number of lenses available, but let's not give the other manufacturers more ammunition in their arguments against an absolutely great Pentax camera.

Best wishes.

One of your pentax's has the pixel shift. The K1. I know the K3II also has it, but it premiered on that body I think, so your K3 does not have it if I am right?

However, my question to you is what you think about the Pixel Shift. I am interested in using it for a High Res capture with a Macro lens, to sub for a scanner. The High Res, Macro lens, and bellows with slide attachment should yield a far superior image over the poor scans one gets on flatbed scanners. I have done this with my Olympus EM5 Mk II to get a 50 Mb image in the sensor shift mode (8 captures blended together) And now know I will never buy another flat bed scanner, and probably pass on drum scans as well.

???????

I know the K1 has it (don't think the k3 does) but from what I understand of it I doubt I'll take advantage of it. It seems especially useful for people taking landscapes or doing architectural / product photography. The tech seems really cool but it also uses a lot of room on the cards. I know SDs are huge these days and the cameras have two slots -- just seems more tech than I need. Or is it ????!

Yeah, but, D ... the K-1 is a Full Frame DSLR ... so, it's made for FF DSLR Pentax lenses ... (6 available, as we speak) ...

But, HERE's the incredible part ... WITHOUT adapters ... you can put ANY K-Mount lens on the K-1 ....

You don't get 36MP ... when using the APS-C lenses ... you only get 15MP ....

But, STILL ... that's absolutely INCREDIBLE!!!!! ....

Don'tchathink, D?

yes -- i've been using my manual k lenses on my pentax digital slrs for years with great results, no adapters needed -- now that I have my K1 it feels like going home in a way.

Oh, I agree with you, Manpho ... the K-1 is the very best deal out there on a Full Frame body ....

And, you know what? ... Ricoh managed to engineer it, so it would accept any and every K-mount Lens out there ....

It's just ingenious!!!!

agreed -- though the Pentax DSLRs have always taken k-mounts, even before the Ricoh acquisition.
