Hi, I am looking to get this FF camera. I'd like some info on it. It's between this and Canon. I was also looking at the Sony A7 RIii, and this has good reviews and it less expensive.

Its a great camera at a great price. It has several features not available on DSLRs costing 3 times as much. It does have a couple shortcomings but they are not a big issue. Not good for sports, average for video, but very good for anything else. Likely the best astro camera out there at any price. Definitely worth serious consideration.

I just purchased a Pentax K1 on Black Friday from B&H. Got a free battery grip with the K1. With my big hands a quality Pentax BG is a must!

Last night was the first time I used the K1 and was floored at the quality photo I was able to get even at ISO 6400. Santa Clause looked real good but I almost missed getting him and Mrs. Clause because of an unknown problem.

My primes and assorted wide angles gave me no problems at all the previous night at home. Last night I only had my Sigma 70-200 f:2.8 on the K1. Experiencing problems, I asking around and was told the lens itself needed a software upgrade from the Sigma factory. That is the only lens I've heard of that needed a software upgrade in my life! I'm still waiting for update information.

Other than that, any camera has a learning curve mainly to remember where the buttons are to do what you want. I love the K1!

One other hassle if you want to call it that. I found out my camera case is about one inch to small to carry the K1 so I'll need to purchase another camera case for it. LoL

So far you have two good reliable endorsements for the Pentax K-1 full frame camera.

The Pentax K1 is the best way to go for a very high quality camera (perhaps, the highest), for a ridiculously lower than competitor market cost. Compare to the other brands for features, build and construction, reliability, and results, the K1 is the best way to go. PERIOD!

I have the K1 and it's an amazing machine, especially for the price. Let me know if you have any specific questions. I'm a pentax user and already had FF lenses ... I can't compare it to Canon or another.

I have had the K-1 for a year and love it. The pixel shift technology delivers stunning landscapes at ~40 megapixels ( like the newer 15-30mm) plus get shake reduction and the AA filter simulator. The K-1 uses a Sony sensor and is the same one in Nikon 810 ( I think)

You guys are throwing a monkey wrench into my plans. I recently sold my Nikon D750 to upgrade, possibly to the Sony mirrorless. But due to budget, the Sony is beyond reach, and I pretty much had my mind made up to choose the soon to be released D760. Now I read these posts.... I was a Pentax guy for many years. Maybe I should have stayed. But it's never too late. Any of you K1 users have suggestions for lenses? I would have to sell my Nikon lenses and start from scratch. My main concern would be a good walk around zoom, like maybe 18-100 or so.

I've used my K-1 for over a year for landscape photography and endorse the positive opinions expressed above. I doubt there is a better DSlR for landscapes and I've had zero problems with it. I haven't regretted this purchase for a second (I came from Canon). It may not be the best choice for action photography but isn't as bad as some have claimed for that.

You can find a lot of info and an excellent review of the camera on www.pentaxforums.com. It's a bit hard to find but there is a forum dedicated solely to the K-1. Btw, don't take the Digital Photography Review of the K-1 too seriously - they got some things wrong and it didn't appear to me they fully learned the camera. Also, you may hear claims that there aren't sufficient lenses available for the K-1, one of the "cons" in the DPR review. Not so - Pentax has always had a policy of retro compatibility of it's lenses on it's cameras and all of them, even it's medium format lenses, will work on the K-1, a few requiring an adapter. Since Pentax has made about 25 million lenses that's a lot of glass! Consult the lens review section on pentaxforums to see what's really available. And the Pentax "star" lenses, their professional grade ones, are especially excellent, although most of the others are really good also.

Happy shooting! If you buy the K-1 I think it will be.

18-100 would be a crop sensor only lens, not for the full frame K1. Pentax makes a very nice 28-105mm full frame lens and has only recently begun kitting that lens with the K1. Pentax also has a very nice "holy trinity" of F2.8 full frame lenses for the K1 as well.

I have this camera with the 28/105. The dynamic range is incredible. I’ve had Canon, Ricoh, Pentax and this is the best by far

The caveat for me was the slow AF and worse AF tracking. If not using it for sports or action, agree it is a good choice, not great.

If I am correct, it is weather sealed. With a weather sealed lense, that Pentax probably has, go shooting in the rain with only a raincoat for you.
