Here are some more shots of Old Salem from around the village. This is a really neat place that I have always liked, since going there on school field trips as a kid. I thought it was a great place for photography and just wanted to share. Any critique is highly welcomed as I am still very much a beginner!

Went to Old Salem with a fellow UHHer and have worked on some of the photos, here's a shot from the bakery and a few from the farmers' market.

Very interesting, I've never seen anything like that before, either. Thanks for sharing!

Now you have me curious. I will definitely look at a lot of reviews.

You have a great stable of lenses and two of Nikons best bodies! and...you use them well. Is that the newer 80-400?

No, it's the older af, not af-s. It is still a nice lens, but I think I am going to sell it and get the new 200-500.

I actually have not been to Myrtle since I started into photography but I have been to the Outer Banks and Wilmington. My avatar is actually one of the stallions from the Corolla herd wild horses.

Interesting tidbit of information! I just figured it was your horse or one nearby. I have been to the Corolla lighthouse but haven't seen the horses. My favorite place on the Outer Banks is Ocracoke.

1,5,6&7 are quite good. The rest are OK vacation snapshots.

If nothing else, I have gotten quite good at getting plenty of decent vacation pictures in this pursuit of perfection! I have started going places alone now to be able to spend more time on the photography.

Andrea, you may be right about brightening them too much. I did take them "to the left", I'm not sure by how many stops, though. We may have to get together for some PP help after we meet up for a shoot somewhere!

Nice job on all of these. I also really like the first Boardwalk image and the first image of the wheel. You have definitely done your homework.

Thank you Andrea! I'm sure you have many of your own from Myrtle Beach and the NC beaches. I especially like the Outer Banks, Beaufort, and Wilmington.

General statement: Great photos.

Details: I would do some front, left, right crop on Peaches Corner so as to play with geometric forms. Too bad the edge of pier sidewalk is trimmed off. (prob due to shift when triggering camera. Try inverting camera press against forehead and use left thumb to fire a shot.)

Compared to the rest of the interesting photos the "Skywheel-again" is a so-what? photo.

You deserve a star in the middle of your forehead for achievement. Obviously you have been reading the free extensive academic work...

Thanks for taking a look and for the assessment. I haven't read that, but it looks interesting and I will definitely be reading it as I get the time!

Welcome to the forum! Your skywheel close-up is the most appealing to me. Interesting perspective and great energy from the colors.

I like the last one a lot, too. I wonder if you could have stepped back just a bit to include the curve of the walkway on the right side?

Thank you very much for the input, this is all really helpful, it's interesting the different things that people notice. Definitely a beginners mistake on the last one either when I took the picture or I could have mistakenly cropped it too close.

Nice perspective. I was there about three years ago, but was not into photography at the time. I only got smartphone pics!

Wonderful set, 'Boardwalk' is superb.

Thanks, Debbie. Boardwalk is probably my favorite from that whole trip.
