My Lackluster Attempt to Best Andrea's Transylvania County Waterfall Photos!
Go easy on me, my waterfall pictures are my first attempt at raw and Lightroom! Andrea posted some great pics that I can't hold a candle to, but wanted to show mine off anyway! Thanks for looking and any advice will be appreciated.
Very nicely done. I have been to those falls, and they are not easy to photograph. I really like the shot of the lower portion of triple falls the best. I think that they could all use a bit of increased contrast and saturation in LR, but other than that, you did very well.
Nice series. I especially like the composition of the top two. As for the PP, they could use a bit more in the vibrancy slider along with some isolated contrast boost in some areas. Perhaps a slight bump in the dehaze slider would do the trick.
Thanks for the tips, I will definitely try those adjustments. I think I may need a better computer screen, because I was thinking they already had borderline too much vibrancy and contrast. I really want a 5k iMac, but yikes! I can get a couple of really nice lenses for what that thing costs optioned out!
Actually very good pictures.
Great, for a 1st attempt. #s 1-4 look fine. On the last one, if you include a prominent foreground, make sure it will be in focus. Check DOF, hyperfocal distance.
KTJohnson, thanks for the tip. I noticed that and wasn't sure if it mattered or not.
The fourth picture stands out above the rest, for me. The rocks in the foreground lead the eye to the falls(the water looks great), and the dark trees above the falls keep us in the image.
The second picture doesn't really work for me. The bright reflection in the foreground, and the bright tees in the background compete with the subject, the falls.
The other photos are good compositionally. A little PP could probably make them pop a little.

As was mentioned, they are good pictures and show the beauty of the falls quite well.
Too often folks go overboard on processing taking things way past what should have been. Too much pp makes it look like it been messed with too much. A little goes a long way. :)

Nice set of your waterfall shots. There's something captivating about climbing around the edges of rivers & rocks to capture a beautiful moment while enjoying nature. Well done! Bob  :)

As for composition, you are spot on !!!!! Those falls are magnificent...I too agree that a little more contrast would pop the color out more...But in any event, outstanding set!!!
Rich...
Osborne, These are wonderful photographs. They have their own beauty and don't need to be compared to any others. They are really good just on their own!! :-)
Beautiful shots, Osbornepaint! Well done!

These are really very good images. The only problem I see is that you may have brightened them a tad too much and washed out some of the color. That can be fixed with a new pass through Lightroom. A quick hint for how I manage to retain the rich colors is that I typically underexpose these by about a 1/3 stop. Keep up the good work and I look forward to meeting up for a shoot sometime soon.
Andrea, you may be right about brightening them too much. I did take them "to the left", I'm not sure by how many stops, though. We may have to get together for some PP help after we meet up for a shoot somewhere!
