My Dad suddenly died of a heart attack in 1953. He owned a small independent food market in Asbury Park, NJ. My mom (then 39 yrs. of age) and I tried operating the store, but it was operating at a loss. In 54' she needed money to help support herself, my sister (age 7) and me. In the eaves of the attic was a very old Underwood typewriter, probably 25 - 30 yrs. old. Looked similar to this one. She carried it down to the dinning room table, cleaned and oiled it and secured a job typing mailing labels on 8.5 x 11 sheets of paper for 10 cents a page. She did that for a couple of months, day and night.

I often think of her and her life after my father died. She was a courageous woman.

Not a full time jazz fan, but his album with "...with Symphony Orchestra " was my favorite vinyl. Had two copies and one got warped from my amplifier and the other played until I copied to chrome tape back in the 70s. Miss that blue cover.
My taste runs to do wop and classic Broadway. Stay the course, remember hip hop is today's baroque.

You can't go wrong with Luminar, nice software, works great as a standalone or PS/LR plugin but, be aware, stay in version 4.2 as the newest one, 4.3, is buggy to a point that some (myself included) are not being able to pass the splash screen. As an IT professional I know it happens sometimes and will be fixed but don't venture to 4.3 as of yet, subscribe but let them know you want 4.2 for now.

Cheers

Speed

I do not concur, 4.3 sped up functioning and added VALUE features .I first used it on my i3 16 gig six year old WIN 10 and about one out of ten times opening time was excessive. However, on my i5 16gig and my Ryzen 7 16 gig WIN 10 PRO, I can say the only issue I have is an occasional, in my opinion, excessive export time; probably due to the 40 meg plus files.

Bottom line, most of the time, my workflow is quicker and results more satisfactory than using LR. I did install the standalone download, rather than the streaming install.

I am trying to decide if Luminar 4 is worth buying or not...I would want to use it for sky replacement mostly...

I currently use Lightroom and PS Elements

will there be any advantages to adding Luminar 4 to my battery of Post Processing Software.

Thanks for your input

Chuck

I use Luminar 4.3, disliked ver.3, 4 was a BIG improvement. 4.3 is amazing. I do not use it as a plugin with LR or PS, but standalone. My biggest gripe is that exporting large files takes more time than I'd like. But, 4.3 is faster than 4 and is not a resource hog. The AI sometimes is too stellar, but then one can tune it down.
I have used it for portraits, real estate photography and family snap shots. A very addictive app. LR is superior with its cataloging and "unbundled" tricks. But for quick improve, rents or changes use Luminar.

I have not seen her since the 1961 Columbia Records convention in Miami Beach. She sang skat with an impromptu (probably rehearsed) during the entertainment portions of the programs. I heard on radio in the mid-sixties and she kind of phrases like Edye. I was impressed, lay person that I am, how long she could sing skat without overly repeating.

As long as I am thinking of old times and Columbia, does the name Jane Olivor ring a bell? She and her sister tried to make the NY Club scene think they were lovers and wanted to get a following like Bet Midler. She had an exquisite range, and her vibrato was "hair on the back of the neck raising" . Many of her songs were self written and arranged. Look her up, her version of Solitaire is super. Stay The Night was her big hit. Thank you for bringing back memories.

Don't forget Carol Sloane, a skat singer and jazz club chantneuse from the late fifties to the sixties. She was a featured singer for Columbia Records.

Mark,
Thank you. I forgot how marvelous Nancy's phrasing was. My favorite of hers was "I WISH YOU LOVE". The intro, she sang it, as she sang it , set up the emotions of the listener to "receive" the message.

Our age of lyrics that are emotive and have meanings that are not spewing profanity and short term achievements, is fading. Thankfully, I have Sirius XM to fill my ears when I wish to time travel. You might do a search for "Bill Evan's With Symphony Orchestra" or play some of the "MOODY BLUES" musically diverse offerings. I am rambling, sorry. Thank you Mark, "azai gesundt".

eBay wants more sales because they get a commission on each one. Some sellers want to make money on the shipping charge, too. I've paid for fast shipping and got Media Mail speed instead. Of course, someone has to pay to get the item to the buyer, but no one wants to do that.

Ebay charges commission on the Total charge for items sold. Years ago, Sellers would lowball the item and charge high shipping, at the time eBay charged fees on item cost. It did not take too long for eBay to change policies. Recently, I perused a Turntable model, one Seller listed $299.00 with free shipping, another for the same new item listed the TT for $229, plus $69.00 for shipping. Some shoppers would gravitate towards the lower purchase price. BTW, both Sellers cited USPS, insured as shipping method.

I have the Viltrox AF 85mm for E mount Sony. I do not do video, but on my A 7R ii , this lens has very fast focusing, including eye auto focus. I have updated firmware three times. After one of them, LR stopped recognizing it as a Sony 85 1.8.(only in LR) Well constructed metal lens, the manual focus takes a bit of time to get used to but works very well with the focusing aids provided by Sony cameras.

A friend has the Sony 85 1.8 and borrowed my Viltrox. He said he liked it better than his Sony because it felt better in his hands and because the lens looked, "bad ass". I found colors render well and it really, to repeat, has FAST AUTO EYE FOCUS!

My friend bought his Sony 85 used, but still about $150.00 more than the new Viltrox. I cannot say anything about warranty or factory service. I had one problem installing a firmware update, but it was user error, and a reinstall solved the issue. If you buy from a US retailer, I believe you get a factory warranty. If you purchase from e Bay, get the optional warranty. I did buy mine from China and with expedited shipping and warranty was well less than retail.

Enjoy your lens!

Wrong, AL Hibbler, the song was a favorite at sock hops and dancing cheek to cheek. Righteous brothers did a great rendition, using "wall of sound" effects and making a heartful ballad written for a prison movie, I believe, into a stirring affirmation of a loved one far away.
