Try the styrene mounted photos from Adoramapix. They are cheap and great for informal wall mounting with foam double sticky tape. They can be swapped out at will.

I agree. I have done several books with adoramapix and do all my printing through them. The photo quality is great and the colors are spot on. Very easy. I really like the styrene backing you can use for mounting individual photos (they go into my laundry room gallery!).

Thanks Bill. I will give it a try. I must say that I have generally been very happy with auto white balance at sunset. All subjects have a warm red tone but that is what they are supposed to look like in that light!

Now I am a little confused. If one takes a photo with overwhelming red overtones such as at sunset, why doesn't the auto white balance create a blue cast? If you tried to custom white balance on a card in the red light wouldn't that generate a blue cast as the white "should be" red in that light...

I have used Carbonite for years and it has served me and the entire family extremely well through hard drive crashes, lost and broken laptops, and recovery of damaged /deleted/lost files. It works seamlessly in the background and never forgets to do a backup like I have in the past. It does not provide an image backup, just fliles. But hey, when I get a new computer or hard drive, I want to rebuild the programs from the start to avoid corrupted files. It is a hassle to reinstall programs but they are all available by download these days. The initial backup does take days to weeks because it runs in the background so it does not slow down the computer. After the initial backup, daily incremental backups are very quick. And yes, you can go to the cloud site and pull off individual files and folders from a standard directory. It is relatively inexpensive. I am a big fan having gotten into loads of wife trouble in the past when the computer died and my wife's project disappeared since my weekly manual backup hadn't been done in 6 weeks. Live and learn...

I am in the minority here but I really prefer ACDsee as it is fast, intuitive, and very easy to use as a browser and editor. I am not sure about video and stitching with it. It boots up fast and other less technically oriented family members can easily use it for browsing, emailing, etc. It is a full function non-destructive editor these days.

No one has mentioned that the Nikon 5xxx cameras have a viewing screen that rotates out and around. The lack of that function on the 7xxx series cameras was a deal breaker for me when I bought my 5300. Although I use it infrequently, it is a fantastic option when shooting from a very low angle (on the ground with my 10-24 zoom) or when holding the camera overhead. Plus the 5xxx series are very light. Call me lazy but I no longer want to lay down on the ground to get a low shot! Also, the articulating screen viewfinder is great when using a Tripod at other than eye level. Most canon cameras have this feature.

Don't forget Coronado and the Hotel Del Coronado, a classic building you will recognize. The view of the SD Skyline across the bay is amazing. I live in SD and you can't go wrong with any of the suggestions. Torrey Pines State Park is the winner for hiking scenery but pay the extra few bucks and drive to the upper parking lot. Take the trail to the beach.

I had the same question several months ago. I noticed that the DNG files were slightly cropped compared to the Neff files. Also, the jpeg rendition was a little different. I called Nikon and they indicated that the images should be identical except for proprietary nikon exif data and slight cropping related to how dng deals with data at the very edge of the image. That may account for the size difference even though dng contains a sidecar file. I kind of wonder if something is lost in translation. A previous poster likened the conversion process to translating Russian to Chinese. A little something gets lost... Having said that, most people feel the images in NEF and dng are equivalent.

I also have time warner road runner email, Outlook, and Windows live mail. I find that the TW online email is terrible. Slow, unstable, clunky. I like Windows live mail because it downloads the email and has a fresh and friendly interface. Outlook also is great but it reminds me too much of my work (where we use outlook) and it has too many bells and whistles that most people never use. I have not converted my email to Windows 10 yet. Has anyone else made the conversion?

If you decide to switch brands, sell your old equipment on eBay. You will be very suprised to see how much money you can get! And then you will have no regrets... I did just that a few years ago.

You might consider a compact holster type case for camera and small lens along with padded lens bags for a couple of lenses. That way you can put them into any general purpose backpack along with non-photo supplies. Just don't let the water containers leak!

Greetings. We just returned from Alaska and one of the best side trips that we took was the hoover craft trip from Juneau to the face of the Taku Glacier. The craft is able to move over both water and mud flats so it takes you to the very front of the enormous glacier. Take a look at the photos below. We previously had taken a helicopter to the top of a glacier which was also amazing but this topped it. The craft is covered but they get alot of rain so be prepared to protect your camera. Forget the tripod on the trip as the ground is irregular and soft like quicksand! The outfit is Allen Marine Tours and here is the link.

Enjoy and be safe!

East is east! Port and starboard are relative to the boat! If headed south, Port side is best. If headed north, starboard is better in my opinion... They do turn the boat to give the other side a view! I just thought it was great to set up my Tripod on my balcony.

I just returned from an Alaskan cruise and had a spectacular time. We had a room with a balcony on the east side of the boat which faced the glaciers. You can set up your Tripod on the balcony and shoot away. However, there is enough movement that I still think that you need a Tripod and VR.
