Very nicely done. Good crop on the 'Gotham City'. The sun and bridge work very well together. The colors of the second image came out quite well for me. I especially like the way the sky came out. Using a multiply layer may have taken away some detail in the shadows of the bridge but more than made up in color detail.

By the way, thank you very much for the post processing descriptions. Always interesting to get an insight on how other photographers edit their images.

Thanks. I was surprised to see so many shots of Brooklyn Bridge and its details but hardly anybody bother to look across at the Manhattan bridge. For me, it does have the majestic quality as much as the Brooklyn Bridge.

Thanks

I searched the topic about Brooklyn Bridge Park at Sunrise but have not found one so I am creating one here.

1. Manhattan Bridge at Sunrise with bursting sun rays. I call it "Gotham City at Sunrise". I tried to increase the contrast, also emphasized the silhouette steel structure of the bridge as well as the water and reflection of buildings on East side of Manhattan on the East River.

2. Brooklyn Bridge Tower (Brooklyn side) at Entrance to River Cafe. No name yet. This spot always full of pedestrians. Except at early yesterday morning, it was empty. I used level, color range, and multiply layer to increase contrast, bring more green-ish and stone colors of the tower.

3. Black & white version of shot #2: B & W to create classic look and simulate weather with cloud before a storm.

Any comments and constructive criticism are welcomed.

Thanks.

Awesome, all of them. When were these shot? I was at the South Rim on Dec 30th, the day before a huge snow storm.

I shot them on March 2nd & 3rd of this year (2015).
The 1st one was on Monday 03/02. It was raining then the Sun came out for 1/2 hour with the rain bow. Then it was back to rain and then snow.
The 2nd and 3rd ones were the next day, Tuesday 03/03 when the snow was stop.

Nice set with great composition. Welcome to the forum.

Thanks. I hope other people with shots of Grand Canyon during this time will also joint this. I did run into few photographers out there last month at the Canyon...

Thanks.

Excellent composition. Beautiful shots.
If you are using PhotoShop, try using the 'Quick selection tool'. You can use it to easily isolate area's you do or do not want to modify. It can be used with the 'Magic Lasso' to easily isolate areas. I have found under the 'Select' tab at the top, the 'Inverse' and 'Similar' tabs to be VERY helpful in this reguard.
The 'Quick Selection' tool is the button between the 'Magic Lasso' and the 'Crop' button's. Excellent tool for isolating areas!!! Once isolated, you can modify color, exposure, etc.
Thanks for sharing your photos.
I took around 7,000 on a trip to Alaska last year, and am STILL editing those, lol (or is it groan?).
Excellent composition. Beautiful shots. br If you ... (show quote)

I mostly use the paint tool while masking. I will try the quick selection and Magic Lasso. Yes, it does take a lot of time so I only selected few shots for editing but it still takes a lot of time from transferring RAW to TIFF and then start editing.

As for for your 7000 shots of Alaska, maybe you will really need to put your foot down and choose approximately 70 to 100 for editing only. My percentage for successful shot is ranging from 1/75 to 1/100 sometimes. I have to do that sometimes because if I leave the photos for more than a few months, I will loose interest in editing them.

Thanks.

You might want to post it on the "Post-processing forum" here. It's amazing what some of the experts there can do with a photo. I've learned a lot watching that forum and occasionally submitting a photo for tips.

Hi GregWCIL,

Good idea. I do have few over exposed and sun flare photos that can used some help to restore.

Thanks.

I've talked to so many people who haven't visited Arizona believe the entire state is at 115 degrees all summer long.
Well, your photos show them differently don't they.

The canyon is at about 7,500 feet at the rim and does get winter, just as your photos show others around the country.
Yes it's hot here in Phoenix but in summer, want some change, drive to the canyon where it's probably in the upper 70's.

Nice set. However I do agree a little too much saturation for my taste.

Hi Jimmya,

The intention was encourage people to visit the Grand Canyon even during Winter time so if they generate positive discussion, then I am happy.

The saturation was a by-product as a result of my attempt to increase the contrast and sharpness of the photos. Will figure out a balance that will not over saturate the photos next time.

Thanks.

All very nice, but I especially like the second one. It is such a cool, contrasting scene. Unlike the other two, I almost think it could use a little more post-processing to make it "pop." I think you are one of those lucky folks who just have a good "eye" for good composition. Looking forward to more of your photos.

Welcome to UHH. If you haven't figured it out yet, traveling to national parks can be quite addictive. We went to Yellowstone in the winter a couple of years ago and found a photographer's dream.

Thanks for the comment. Yes, I agree that the shot of the tree can use more "pop". Problem is there is quite blown out area that tends to get even more blown out if I try to increase the saturation (over exposed area in the middle of the photo, at the canyon) that I do not know how to to fix it yet. My masking techniques are not good yet. May be in a few weeks or months.

You are right about addictive going to the National Parks like The Grand Canyon. I can't wait to get back there. May be I will stop by Yellowstone some days. Just have to save up some $$$ and accumulate enough vacation days.
Thanks.

You are welcome. I grew up in Carmel, about 60 miles North of you. At the time it was a great area and time to grow up. Now it may be an extension of NYC. It sure has grown.

Good luck with your photography. After the Grand Canyon give Utah and the National Parks a chance. They are beautiful and you will not regret it.

Dennis

Thanks. I plan going to the North Rim, Bryce canyon, Zion, Arch Canyon this summer. Have to save up some $$$ first. Thanks for the advice.
