Realize this is an old thread, but thought I'd pass on the final results of my question... I ended up buying the Sigma 120-300 2.8 lens and I went on and bought the Sigma 1.4x teleconverter as well. I've had it all of a week, but so far am thrilled with the results with and w/out the 1.4x! I also bought the Sigma dock but still want to do the adjustments of the AF fine tuning to the allowed 4 different focal lengths and focal distances (I think). Anyway, still may get that D500 someday, but not today... Thanks for all the input and comments!

Thanks for all the comments! Good info! Still not sure what I'll do, but I'm think I leaning to the Sigma 120-300 to go with my D750... Thanks all - really appreciate your thoughts!

I have a Nikon D750 and the Nikkor 70-200mm f2.8 VRII. Over the next few years, I will likely be shooting more sports (mostly soccer/football at night) and would like a little more "reach." I've looked at maybe buying the Sigma 120-300mm f2.8 (either the latest "Sport" or previous version) as a good option to accomplish this with my D750. But lately, I've wondered if I may be better off buying a D500 which would give the "same reach" with my 70-200; and a refurbished D500 would cost less than the Sigma 120-300 2.8... I have thought about a 1.4X TC, but for me it seems the images always look too soft... any thoughts?

Also, is it the "new" version with separate rings for focus and zoom? or the older one with one focus that slides for zoom? supposedly, the older one AF is much slower. they both require AF motor in the body as well...

Absolutely worth it! I moved from my D7000 to my D7200 last summer. The two biggest draws for me were significantly larger buffer size and much better high ISO performance. I take quite a few pics of high school soccer at night and the D7200 has helped a lot. The wifi connectivity is also kinda neat and allows remote activation of the shutter with their app as well as transfer of pics to my phone "in the field"...I also was trying to decide whether to go FF or with the D7200, but in the end it was a dollars decision...

There is not enough money in existence to buy that dog. I held him right after he was born and I will bury him when he dies. Best and smartest dog I have ever had.

What about an online storage/organizer? A free Flickr account allows 1TB of free space and with the app on her phone, the photos will automatically upload to her account. No user involvement required, except to load the app, turn on auto-upload and take some pics... They can easily be viewed by date or with their camera view which can sort them automatically by subject...

If you use Lightroom, the Map module will allow you to import the GPX file from your phone (using an app like Geo Tracker (free) for Android) and LR will connect the GPS data to the photos based on the time each pic was taken. Can also be done without LR using an application on your PC called GeoSetter (don't know about a Mac equivalent).

Regardless of whether you go mac or pc, I would strongly recommend your computer include a (large) solid state drive. They are becoming much more affordable (just bought a 1TB SSD for a little over $300) and will dramatically increase the speed of everything your computer does...
