Wow so many suggestions... I fell once and a filter was stuck on and chipped. Found a little Mom and Pop photography store in Tennessee they were very happy to get that off for me. Didn't even charge me and it took them about 10 minutes. But they were experienced and you and I are not. So my suggestion is just find somebody who knows what they're doing so you don't ruin it

Why read the manuals where you can just look it up on Google... Honestly the first thing I did when I bought my camera was go out and get a DVD that would explain how to use it. Then as I used my camera over the next year or two I begin to understand what the DVD meant.

Will all of today's technology and software both inside the cameras and on our computers I have found that it's not so much about the picture that you take but the picture that you make. So yes go ahead and play with that light balance and do things that are crazy or that don't make any sense and then experiment and see what kind of outcome you get. The worst that can happen is that you'll delete the picture and have to try some other light balance setting. Indeed I have found that some of my best pictures are when I make a so-called mistake in light balance and then I let the camera and or software do the work. So relax have fun and shoot.

Dont neglect watching some old black and white movies... You can find them on YouTube for free. Film Noir movies seem to be among the best with great contrast and mood setting techniques

I love this... It reminds me of the barn we used as a pig pen when I was a kid. by the way behind that door are rats tons of them ready to disperse as soon as you turn the light on. Keep on posting

Walmart friend so much advice... You're probably lost it at all. Started shooting myself about 4 years ago and had the same problem. It took me a while to learn how to focus my camera. So much to say here so I'll try to keep it simple and brief.
Number one learn to use back button focusing. You can find how to set your camera to this online on YouTube. Believe me this puts you in control of when you want to focus. Once you get used to using it you will never again go back to shutter focusing.
Number two forget about manual mode for now and start shooting in shutter speed mode. I think it's called a v on your camera settings. I save so many pictures by doing this. Think about it the faster your shutter opens and closes the less time it has to register camera Shake. The trick here is to learn how to set the correct ISO that still gives you enough light for a good exposure. Believe me this is very simple to do and to get used to. For instance if you're shooting a picture at shutter speed 100 then try using ISO 100. If that's too dark then start raising your ISO until you get a good exposure. it's true there's other tricks for a good exposure than this but believe me this is a great short cut and it will get you out of auto mode and P mode where you have so little control of your color. And For now When doing this leave the aperture on automatic.
Yes these two things have helped my photography immensely and I know that they will help you provided your equipment is working okay

I have a Nikon 3100 and one day I noticed that I could change the settings all those aforementioned camera modes. I noticed that standard and portrait were the same setting so I kept portrait to save and change standard to a setting that was a hair lighter than landscape and just a hair less Vivid then Vivid. I use that modified standard setting for almost all of my landscape pictures. Of course there are times when I don't need the saturation so that I just use my portrait setting which as I mentioned before was the same as my unmodified standard setting. Just go into setting menu / picture control / grid. Then position the standard over to the right and up so it's it's just underneath both Vivid & Landscape. Don't you have that set I guarantee you're going to be very happy with the results

Greetings friend... I have a Nikon 3100 and have used it for about three and a half years. Inside my camera is a nef or raw processor. There is practically nothing that teaches you how to use that but I have learned through the years that is is well worth my time to process my pictures inside the camera first before I put them on a computer. I'm not saying that this method is for everyone but I don't have good PP software so I have learned to use it and it works quite well.

I took pictures at this aquarium years ago when I was just learning photography. focus can be very difficult through glass so perhaps I would suggest a monopod with manual focus.

Great lighting very relaxing scene but too many weeds in the way... just a personal thing but I tried to clear stuff like that up before I take my pictures. They are kind of distracting do the other wise Serene scene
