Nikon is not going out business in fact for December 2020 the Nikon Z7 II was the best selling camera ahead of Sony and the EOS R5 since the the EOS had overheating issues.

A major consideration between the Nikon 850 and the mirrorless Z7 II are the lenses. I have had a Nikon 610 and a Nikon 750 in the past; wonderful Nikon DSLR's. I now shoot a Nikon Z6II and because of the shorter lense flange the Z lenses are sharper with more contrast then my DSLR lenses.

Nikon's camera division is Not going out of business. Nikon is transferring many of their cameras manufacturing to Thailand and decreasing their emphasis on their lower end cameras. Nikon will pace their emphasis on the serious amateur and professional camera and lense market where they earn more profit going forward.

I would recommend, that if you'd like to going mirrorless that you consider either the newly released Z6 II or the Z7 II cameras. Also purchase the Nikon FTZ adaptor so that you may use all your Nikon F lenses on your mirrorless camera. I have this FTZ adaptor for my Nikon Z camera and my F lenses work very well. I also have some legacy Nikon lenses (AIS and AI) and these legacy lenses work well on my FTZ adaptor and my Z camera. Check these Nikon new Z II cameras on line. Good luck and don't worry about Nikon going out of business.

Outdoor Photographer did not go digital in my area since I receive my magazine, like clock work, monthly in the mail. My latest issue of Outdoor Photographer magazine arrived last week. I have never received an email about receiving each issue digitally. It may be that in some areas they have gone digital for Outdoor Photographer.

I think the answer whether to shoot JPEG or raw depends on how you plan on sharing the photos. If you are going to share online shooting JPEG may be OK. However if you probably plan on making or having made a print from your work you probably shoot raw. As for having the "right" settings in camera I think you should have camera setting either way for both JPEG's and raw images.

I shoot all my landscape photos in raw and my cameras settings are set up before hand for shadows, highlights, sharpness and white balance since usually I do not use auto white balance.

Try the Subaru Forester. I have a Subaru Outback and love it. The Forester is classified as an SUV and the sitting position is higher and easy to get into and ampill leg, hip and high headroom. The back has a roll out blind that covers all valuables.

You may want to look at F-Stop backpacks. These F-Stop packs are light and well made. I have had the AJNA bag (37ltr) for some time and I shoot landscape and usually hike to my destination.

I have bought several L brackets over the years all from Kirk. Kirk is usally about 70 to 80 percent less than RRS and the quality, fit and finish of Kirk is the same as RRS.

I am a landscape shooter. The 50mm lens is a difficult lens to use for landscape. The 50MM lens is doable for landscape and is not often used for this purpose. Usually a wide angle (16 mm to 35MM) is used or a 70mm to 200mm telephoto lens is used for landscape.

I second Triplets comment about Breakthrough Technologies ND filters. These ND filters have the least color cast 0f any of the major brands. I use both the ND 3 and 6.

B&W ND filters are my second choice.

Stay away from variable ND filters.

Nikon's sales of lower end consumer cameras are considerable lower than forecast. Nikon's new strategy is to downsize their personnel and concentrate on high end cameras for the serious amateur and professionals.
