I'm voting for the boat, too, but some great shots here, Kerry. Nice work. And even without the green and pink, Maine offers wonderful blue skies and ocean, the browns and grays of rocks and trees, and the white of (infernally deep, long-lasting) snow. And don't forget the stunning oranges and pinks of the sunrise and sunset.

There's no place like Maine! : )

Thank you, Randy!

Repeating after you - There's no place like Maine... But you are right Maine has it's lovely though more subtle colors. By the way, the boat is still stuck ;-)

Mother Nature played a cruel trick on us this morning. The house sparrow has made his nest; the street had been cleaned of sand; and whoa!, what a rude awakening this morning. NO spring this year!

Well Photo Girl, take comfort in getting one last practice session capturing snow! And the sparrow is a promising sign of hope. Nice job! I think all of us New Englanders have about had it - it has been brutal.

Folks, got up early so I could capture a few early morning bird shots. My favorite time for dramatic lighting. One of these days I'll get off the bird kick I've been on, so bear with me till I get it out of my system. I'm just having to much fun right now. No cropping, all shot in 16:9 widescreen.

Stunning, James! Gorgeous subjects and lighting!

great photo's, but I just love that last one..

Thank you, Tom, for looking, commenting and choosing. :) That last one sums up the winter experience on a lake in Maine - my favorite too, though this winter is overstaying its welcome!

Wonderful shots! All of them!

Thank you so much, Tracey!

The photo opps in there in your corner of Paradise are awesome, I go a little camera crazy over all your birds, when we are down in Sanibel (which isn't ever as long as I like) Do you know of any meet-ups or camera clubs in the area?

Gorgeous series, Kerri. I liked them all but especially liked the little boat. Must be the New Englander in me. :D

John

You must have truer New England blood than I do John ;). Thank you for letting me know which you enjoyed the most! Wishing you a beautiful spring, eventually!

We still have 12 inches of snow here. Although I have to say, I really like the last one of the boat.

KT, if you still have 12 inches of snow, I guess it's a VERY good thing you like the boat best! Thank you kindly and I sincerely hope those 12 inches melt soon!

Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous! The poppies are also my favorite (just PERFECT), though I love them all :)

You are too kind, Linda! I guess I was just a wee bit color starved! Glad you liked the poppies :)

Absolutely lovely pictures. You have a good working relationship with your camera. Well done.

Thank you for your very kind assessment, Dennis! What I have a good working relationship with, is YOUR weather! You are a lucky man to live out there!

A big WOW from me, Kerry! What a wonderful and eclectic series! All are remarkable either for their color, content or simplicity but I'm in love with the Poppies!

I am so glad I included the poppies for you, Carly! I hope you get to enjoy some real live ones for yourself sometime soon - do they grow in your neck of the woods? Escaping winter was a such big WOW for me. Thank you for enjoying my little California tour :)

...Occasional Escape! Now and then they need me to leave behind my home in this land of never-ending ice, snow and single digits to travel someplace sunny and 75 ☺... Went a little nuts with my camera – it has been a long time since I've seen the world in Technicolor. Here are a few of my far too many images of flowers and other signs of life above freezing.

Seriously? The grass must be greener somewhere...Cape Elizabeth, Maine (not far from home)

California Poppies make me happy :)

Home offers another kind of beauty, but I'm missing the fun colors of California!

We heard a Jay screeching very loud this afternoon. His protests were about Wild Turkeys entering our yard. They scooted off as soon as I went to take their photo.
The Jay continued yelling until the big guys were far out on the snow covered lake.
Other birds like the male Cardinal couldn't have cared less.

You helped me gain a new appreciation for this winter that just won't quit. Snow makes a fabulous backdrop for turkeys. That is a gorgeous image, Pierre! They all are, but I just love everything about your turkey shot.

I keep trying to get these birds so they're somewhat in focus. Here are a couple from about an hour ago shot with a slightly higher ISO of 640 and shutter speed of 1/2000. I was losing some light as the shadow from the house closed in.

Any suggestions?

Gorgeous set again Vicki! That Wicked fast shutter speed must be part of your formula for success!

These keep me challenged.

A few months ago, Joe suggested arranging something that would be an attractive perch for birds. Today, I attached a two foot long pear branch to the deck railing with wire. It worked well enough that I got some closer poses of these guys (better than the in flight shots).

Feel free to make suggestions. I keep trying to learn.

Beautifully captured! It is such a treat to see hummingbirds at rest! Great tip too, thanks for passing it along Vicki!
