The positioning doesn't bother me .......

Missing the tip of the flower does ..........

I would also darken the background a bit on the lighter areas. Add a bit of clarity, and saturation on the flower, plus make the flower a tad brighter ......... this will help it 'pop' a bit more from the backdrop.

Example .......... of course IMO

I don't know how to do all that stuff yet!!!!

Ah okay. Now I know. It was shot on a D3200 Nikon with a Tamron 18-270 lens. Don't ask me anything about iso or that stuff as I'm still learning.

It's funny. You can tell I'm an amateur. I bought every lens I could get my hands on so that I could play with them and see which ones felt right for me. I have an 18-70 Nikon AF-S lens and it's not at all "light" IMHO the Tamron Lens feels just enough lighter and I figured with the extra zoom I'd have it available if I decided I need it. I'm learning super zooms aren't the greatest for awesome shots. But with a little skill and a bit of creativity I'm gonna make it work. Now the new 18-55 they are packing on the new Nikon package deals, that thing is LIGHT! I dunno. Maybe I'm just weird and haven't found what works best for me yet.

also the iris picture I posted and asked for a critique on was shot on the Tamron lens.

No...I don't think so necessarily. Just was wondering why you have the 70-200mm range covered by both lenses.

Back in the day, when you bought a film (full frame) DSLR, they almost always came with a 50mm lens. The first zoom everybody then bought was a 35-70mm. 90% of all my shooting in film days was with a 35-70mm. It is just a nice range lens, lightweight and a great walk around. The 18-70 is even a better range, lighter weight and a great walk around (especially on a cropped lens body).
No...I don't think so necessarily. Just was wonde... (show quote)

Thanks guy! I wish the weather would cooperate, but it's rainy season I'm South Florida. I'm thinking about taking a few days and going up to Savanah and giving the camera and the new lenses a thorough workout. I love that city. It is so photogenic!

Oh. That was smart. How'd you do that? Mirror it?

The 18-270 is a walk around lens for me. It stays on the camera unless I want to shoot something specific. I prefer the 50mm or 85mm for portraits, the 70-200 is a fast action lens and I'll probably end up selling it off to someone who can actually use it. I feel it's too big and heavy for the pictures I need or want. I'm not a pro... I'll sell it and get a Tokina 11-16mm fii/2.8 AT-X for wide angles instead. That would probably make more sense for me. It was just a really good deal and I couldn't pass it up!!!

You sure about that? Mine says F1.4-2.3 Leica DC vario SUMMILUX 24mm Wide Angle.

Many Lumix models are fitted with Leica lenses designed by Leica's German optical engineers and are assembled in Japan. As per Leica's website.

I have the Lumix LX7 and it's perfect for low light pics when I don't have my Nikon with me... Not much zoom, but that's when I drag out the Lumix FZ70. that thing has CRAZY (60x) ZOOM!

Those were both what convinced me that I liked photography.

I have never really tried up close photography before, so this is new to me. But I think this shot came out ok, though I think I might get some slack for cutting off the bottom tip of the flower.
