Agreed that a memory can be brought to mind by a photograph. However, I wonder if one would take such a photo versus simply listening to the sounds The breeze makes and looking at the movement of the foliage.

The Z50 is an entry level camera and may not have the technology that you experienced with the D850. I’m surprised that Nikon produced the 24-250 (or 200) much of the focal lengths between 24 and 70 have been covered. Obviously trying to woo the customer that wants a ‘walk around lens’ with Ample focal lengths.

The Z6 is a great camera. I have been moving my Nikon gear for years. D60, D200, D300S, D500 and now the Z6. The kit lens of 24-70 is a constant aperture of f/4. Any Nikon lenses that will work using the adapter. However autofocus will not work, requiring manual focus if the lens does not have its own motor. Here is what I did: I traded in all of my lenses, except an f/4 70-200 lens (has a motor). Kept my D500. The store would not take it as it got damaged in a Black Rapid failure. I then acquired the Z lens 14-30. The Z lenses are fabulous : sharpness, low light photography and night photography. The Z system is much less heavy to transport than the upper end DSLR. I wish that I could upgrade to the Z6 II but personally am not yet ready for the additional cost. Good luck in your decision. No matter what, the retailers want to move their products and will concede to discounts. If you go the Z6 route, ask the vendor to update to the latest firmware. It’s a great camera. Good luck

DRamII - I have thought a great deal recently about my involvement in photography. I have been hospitalized since mid - May but will be discharged in 9 days. I spoke often with a person from the hospital’s ‘clergy’. Joel has studied religion, philosophy and the like. He used photography to gain my trust by asking me to critique some photos from a colleagues office. Such an interesting approach. My journey at the hospital into my photography resulted in almost a definition.
1. To be in the moment; to capture an image that I believe is unique and shows the viewer my intent
2. To capture the beauty around us. Beauty is not describing a Venus de Milo. Rather it can be a run-down structure or a merchant answering a customer request.
3. The image must affect me emotionally and spiritually.
There are several scenes that meet the criteria but also many that an image will affect you spiritually but is not possible to capture. A breeze moving through trees or grass or crops. The sound is beautiful but the scene would be difficult to meet my compositional criteria.
Thank you for raising this topic.

Gentlemen,
Thank you for your guidance. Since I will assume that each of you shoots either Z6 or Z7, will you consider an upgrade to the
Z6 II or the Z7 II?
I was hoping that a firmware update would be available to upgrade the deficiencies.

Advice and assistance required via two questions:
1. Can the Z6 be programmed to use back button focus?
2. If yes, can you tell me how to do it, please?
Thank you

I have purchased Nikon brand cameras through the years. I chose Nikon over Canon because I liked their branding and when I held my first Nikon, it felt ‘right’. I owned an Olympus OM D 1 ,(I think that was the name). I traded it in not because the images were unsatisfactory but due to the complexity of operation. I think that many of the people on this site are committed to a certain brand. They won’t be happy until everyone else agrees with their particular view. This is snobbery. I have sold images over the years. The purchasers cannot discern any difference of the image, based upon the brand of camera used. I now use the Z6 and Z lenses. The images are so sharp. Dial it down guys and shoot with whatever brand you like. Just concentrate on your compositions and the world will still rotate on BB

Excellent responses to the question posed. Let me summarize:
1.The camera must feel comfortable in your hands 2. The camera should have an easy to use menu. 3. This is a tough one but you will want certain technical elements to be immediately available and not buried in the menu. E.g. exposure compensation, ISO and whatever features are important to you.4. Each manufacturer as well as Tamron and Sigma have lenses of various sizes, and typically have both consumer and higher quality lenses. 5.You can compare performance digitally. Personally, I have invested in lenses that have a balance between focal length, weight and cost. I want fast lenses but often am frustrated by the weight.
I presently use a Nikon Z6 camera with the following lenses, all from Nikon: fisheye, 14-30 mm Z lens f/4, 24-70 Nikon Z f /4, 70-200 f/4 zoom telephoto. The fisheye and the zoom telephoto are not Z lenses and I must use the adaptor. Camera technology changes rapidly.,..

Typically the Nikon digital cameras have a reset selection in the menu. I still have my D200 but have not used it for some time. Thanks for the query and the solution,;:/

Some very nice images. You have achieved sharpness in spite of the atmosphere. Would you mind telling me the settings that you used for image #8? And did you use an ND filter or a polarizer to reduce the light.

RG - I owned the Nikon f/4, 24 to 120. I acquired it with my D500. I did not like the lens at all. This comment is not proven but at focal lengths greater than 90, I thought that the results/images were too soft for focal lengths above 90. It is also a relatively heavy lens.
