FYI Back when it was next to impossible to get the new Nikon 500mm PF lens I had ordered it both from B&H and Adorama. After 4 months waiting I took a shot and ordered from Nikon as well. 2 Months later I received the Lens from Nikon and for several more months I received updates from both retailers that they would ship as soon as available..........I finally cancelled those orders..

Examples of images taken with either my Tokina 100mm macro lens or the Nikon 100mm macro lens. https://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-614479-1.html I have Hundreds more images mostly taken with my 6 yr old Tokina lens that you can view as well. Each lens is subjected to pollen ridden fields, dusty back roads and all other kinds of conditions. I also keep a full set of extension tubes on my macro lens and these are not sealed very well and I have to blow the dust out of them from time to time. The extension tubes also allow dust to enter my macro lens. Not to mention I change my lens All the time in the field. If you see any dust in my images let me know......

If you shine a flash light into ANY lens you will see dust to some extent............................... Any zoom lens that you purchase that breathes in and out as you change focal lengths will slowly but surely collect more dust. Every single lens I have has minute amounts of dust but this DOES NOT affect the quality of image the lens produces. The lens focuses past the dust and you will never see it in an image. Lots of more important things to worry about in photography than dust particles in your lens.

It's a tool and goes where I go.. Several years ago I fell into a lake from a boat and it happened in a split second. About a $4000 investment went in with me. Cost about $1600 to repair as this type of damage was not covered. I brushed myself off and returned to the lake. Why would I show up to a job with inferior tools and leave the best tools at home. I purchased for the reason to get the job done with the best possible results.....

You would actually lose a few pixels in the DX mode when using the D850. You only get about 19.4 pixels and on the D500 you get 21. Not to mention the frame rate would be Much slower. To increase the frame rate on the D850 you would have to purchase the extra battery grip and if you use all Nikon parts and batteries that's another $1000 and you only get 9 frames per second.. I owned both, but returned the D500 and only shoot with the D850. I Never use in the dx mode as I can selectively crop down to fill the frame if desired. You whole trick to wildlife photography is getting CLOSE. I mainly shoot wildlife. If you want to use the D850 in DX mode by all means use it that way but you will not gain any advantage. The advantage of the D850 is the pixel count, the dynamic range and it's ability to handle noise. Best DSLR for low light early morning shooting by far. These are the reason's I purchased the camera..

looking to upgrade my 8 yr old imac. any thoughts folks? i don't need a laptop. i hear good things about the speedy m1 chip.

thanks for your comments/experience for those who've got a new mac....

norm

They currently have the 24inch M1 iMac out but soon to release the 27inch M1 iMac which is what I'm waiting for. I'm no computer expert, only know my other iMac's 12yrs and 5yrs old still run as good as the day purchased..
PS lots of videos on YouTube about the M1 chip.. They just can't choke this thing up. Can't wait to see how fast any and all photo/video editing software I have will run on it.

Thanks for that! It worked! With the tax, that saved me $17.28. I was able to download Win and Mac versions.

Check out the new version of No Noise AI. Extremely fast. I have and use Topaz Denoise as well but this new version on ON1 Raw is ten times faster and the results are great. I will continue to use Topaz as each individual image can benefit from different softwares. Just another tool in the tool box.. Have Fun.

Hey guys long time no see. Alls going well here. An old friend reached out the other day to share he was getting back into Macro photography. I'm helping him round up equipment to get the highest amount of magnification for the least amount of money. We will be photographing smaller sized species of jumpers so around the 5mm range. I used the DCR-250 reversed on a 100mm macro lens with step down rings and a full set of tubes to capture the images without much cropping. I was hoping someone here on the site might have the 250 laying around or any other Raynox gear they would part with.. If you do please PM me here. I'm working out of down so only home on the weekends. I will answer your message then, if sent. Thank you so much, Martin.....

PS any old Yongnuo flash you might have laying around also, Thanks..

Jerry if you have ON1 2021 raw you can upgrade to the 2022 version for $63.99
I haven't tried the time lapse feature but the other new improvements are worth it in my opinion.
Just open your 2021 version and click on help then in the drop down menu click on up dates. This leads to a 20% off coupon

Short story short.
First of all the Z9 compares to the Sony a9, NOT the Sony a1, no 30 frames per second RAW on the Nikon, speed defines wildlife photographers and the Z9 does not come close.
Second, the current Nikon 600 4 weighs almost double the new Sony 600 f4, which I own, and shoot hand held, because it is center weighted and has a revolutionary rail focusing system which is far superior to what Nikon currently is using. The Sony professional line of camera's are weather sealed. But as I have stated many times, I do not take my equipment out in the rain. But saying that, I shot my Sony a9 with the Sony 200-600 in Costa Rica and I had no issues at all, that said, I still wrapped a plastic bag several times about the lens and camera to insulate it from the environment. Again, no issues.
Good luck and keep on shooting until the end.
Short story short. br First of all the Z9 compares... (show quote)

Yes I used the Nikon Z9 as it's the only Nikon camera that comes close to the A1 as comparison. And yes, the frame rate separates the true wildlife cameras, reason for the switch. And yeah I hope they have to pry a camera out of my dead cold hands when it's my time to go... I just need do this why I still can......Thanks

The only camera I would trust in truly wet conditions is one designed for going underwater. As far as I'm concerned, "Weather-sealed" doesn't mean a thing. If you return a soaked weather-sealed camera under warranty, they're not going to repair it.

Guess you never shot with a Nikon before. I've spent entire days at base of 300ft waterfall where the mist continuously soaks the camera, cloud forrest so thick with clouds and mist you choke on the water running down the back of your throat from breathing and the camera gets soaked. Also have been caught in down pours with only my body to protect the camera and it becomes soaked as well. Have experienced this with the D600 and D850 and never a problem. Weather sealed means weather sealed. I talked to Sony Tech/warranty rep yesterday and they stated under normal conditions which INCLUDE rain the product is covered, but not covered if dropped into water. Since Nikon comes with a Full 5yr warranty and Sony only comes with 1yr I've decided to go ahead with purchase but buy additional 3yr warranty. Thanks
