Thanks for the information. So what size do you make these photos so people don't steal them.

Basically a low res teeny tiny image no one would want to steal ;)

The facts are though that Flickr is NOT selling images that have the proper licensing set - very easy to do BTW.

If you want to let anyone have them, then license them Creative Commons Share Alike... if not then retain ownership. Easy Peasy.

BTW - here are is Creative Commons License info...

Read the REAL info here regarding what is being sold (CC License wise)

Just set your license properly and be happy. :)

What is a "web-friendly" sized photo.
Mr PC wrote:
One caveat. I read recently that Flickr has decided any photos you put there can be used for their purposes. In other words, if you want to protect your copyrighted material, it's probably not the place for you. I personally only post web-friendly sized photos at any of my online sites, they're not much good for anything except for viewing online.

Open the task manager, and go to processes. Look for MSIEXEC.EXE or the like running, and shut it down. Ignore any warnings you get, Windows gets weird about you taking charge! Check if you see any processes named something with "install" on the end or similar. Close them. Then try the install over again. Good luck with it!

I am trying to install PE 13 and it keeps telling me that an installer is running so it won't install. I went into the task manager and stopped AVG thinking that was my problem but it still tells me another installer is running. I have PSE 10 on this computer but the readme file says you do not need to uninstall older versions. I am on a PC running Win 8. If anyone could give me step by step instruction on what to look for I would appreciate it.

I've been getting emails about Portrait Pro 12 and was wondering if anyone uses this software and do they like it or not.

Problem solved! It was the website after all. Glad to hear it wasn't my photographs!!!!! Thanks to those that tried to help.

I had a problem similar to this one and it is in the computer, something you have done to change some setting. I cannot remember how i fixed it. Actually my son-in-law fixed it for me. Not much help I know but maybe a little.

There are no options like that on the site that I use. I've sent them an email asking if it is my problem or possibly something wrong at their end.

I meat a filter or effect at the site when you posted ghe pic to the site.

I don't think so. The picture at the top is the same picture that I uploaded to the internet page and it was fine on this site.

Hmmmm. . . yes, that is an odd result. It's not really a 'negative' - looks more like some sort of 'posterization' effect. Could you have accidently chosen some sort of 'filter' when you posted the pic?

Post the results when you resolve the issue?

Good luck.

This is the same photo as above but when I upload it turns to this.
http://www.protopage.com/mmcmullen#Untitled/Home. Hope I did this correctly. If you choose the Home tab that is the phot that is messed up. The other tabs have photos that I uploaded a couple of weeks ago.

Post a link to the internet page with the 'negative' photo?

This uploaded fine. Now I am thinking it probably is the internet page that has the problem instead of my photographs.

I don't know what I've done but my photos look like negatives (I think that is what it is) when I put them on my internet page. I am using Photoshop CS5. I've resized the pictures so the files are not so large but when I upload to the site they look like negatives. I am guessing I have changed a setting and that is what is causing the problem but I don't have a clue where to look to find the problem. I would appreciate your help and thank you in advance.

You said you started with the T3i. What camera body are you using now?

I also do a lot of photos for school and started with the
T3I and Kit lens. Due to the size of the class rooms and
the need for close ups of kids working I went with the
24-105L . It is a very sharp lens. I also have the 70-200 2.8 L and use it in the Gym's and ball fields and places
like that. Also the 24-105 is great for portraits. mdh

Thank you all for your help and patience. I have a lot to learn and you are all such knowledgeable people. I hope one day to be able to take as awesome photographs as you do. And maybe be able to help some Newbie along the journey!

I have taken pictures in the gym before but what I find is that many times the kids up close are out of focus and I don't like how that looks. That is why I was wondering if I needed a different lens. We have a stage and where the kids' rows start is only about 5-6 ft. away and I can't go back any farther without getting on the stage and I'd rather be at eye level. The lighting (fluorescent) isn't great but most of the time I can keep my ISO at 800 or lower when they are on the gym floor. If they are on the stage that is another story.

You have all been very helpful and I have some great suggestions to try. I have a lot to learn and I know I am in the right place to do just that. Thanks again!!!!

You have recieved some very good advice ....... if you are taking setup class shots from about 15 feet away from the front.

But I am going to assume that is not the case.

I am going to assume that you are taking photos of the students in the stand watching basketball games, and that you are probably across the other side of the court.

In this case you will probably want a longer lens and you will still be able to get the required depth of field with your F/2.8 or F/4 and that a flash is not going to be any use to you.

I am going to suggest 70-100-200mm focal length, IS turned on (vibration reduction), F/2.8 to F/4, ISO 1600 and handheld will be fine.

If you put the numbers (your lens and camera) into a DOF calculator it will give you the numbers to work with for your depth of field.

EDIT
I didn't read enough of the posts did i?
But the suggestion that I made may come in handy at some time, so I will leave it all there.
