Photoshop Elements 13 installer running and won't install

I am trying to install PE 13 and it keeps telling me that an installer is running so it won't install. I went into the task manager and stopped AVG thinking that was my problem but it still tells me another installer is running. I have PSE 10 on this computer but the readme file says you do not need to uninstall older versions. I am on a PC running Win 8. If anyone could give me step by step instruction on what to look for I would appreciate it.

Open the task manager, and go to processes. Look for MSIEXEC.EXE or the like running, and shut it down. Ignore any warnings you get, Windows gets weird about you taking charge! Check if you see any processes named something with "install" on the end or similar. Close them. Then try the install over again. Good luck with it!

There is a good PSE user forum with some pretty deep level experience.

There is also a "cleaner" for Adobe applications. You run it to clean up any residual files/execs from programs that didn't install or won't install correctly.
I do not have the link handy, but someone else here on the forum may have it to post.
Good luck!

13 won't install unless you're running Windows 7 or 8. What's your version?

Get rid of Win 8 and get a copy of Win7 Pro. MS will probably stop supporting 8 in the near future as soon as Win 10 is available. Don't buy that either until it has been out for a year or more! Why should you be a MS 'guinea pig' and go through a year of hell, because they rush a new OS onto the market before it is fully tested?

Same thing for new cars--never buy a first year's introductory model!

I didn't find a MSIEXEC.EXE running. I found three Windows Installers running so I took a chance and closed those and was then able to load the software. Thank you for your help!

Glad to hear that worked for you! Being a retired (AND LOVING IT!!!) IT professional, with over 20 years fixing user problems, I should have remembered sometimes they use MSIEXEC, and sometimes Windows Installer. Two somewhat different ways to do a Windows app install. Obviously you were able to realize the issue and fix it. I wish more of my users had been that much on the ball!
