What were your settings and exposure times. How did you light the foreground? Beautiful shot

This was a 30 second exposure at f/16. It was well before sunrise and still somewhat dark. I actually walked into the frame with a flash light and "painted" light into the scene. There was a bit of a "ghost" of myself which I removed with PS.

Jay! Amazing! I am a little obsessed with moon rises and sets and taking shots like this too. May I ask, where did you go to get this shot? The NJ side? Did you use TPE to help figure out the trajectory of the moonrise, etc? Really excellent work!

This was taken at the Port of New Jersey. Very quiet on a Sunday morning.

Too much boring foreground, bright light on rocks below the lighthouse draw the eye and need to be toned down, and it could be cropped better to highlight the subject.

Overall pleasing colors and post work except as noted. Keep shooting!

Thanks for the constructive comments. I would love to see some of your work. Do you have a website or post anywhere (Flickr, 500px)

Great images, Alissa! I have shot this lighthouse several times and I love the angles you have chosen.

Of course that is how you'd manage this. I'm just so used to making an utter fool of myself that I wouldn't have thought to do it the most normal, easy way. BTW, just looked at your Zenfolio site and you have a very impressive body of work. Love your b&w especially but the fall colors at the park are spectacular.

Thanks Carly! Just looking for my next career!

LOVE this perspective! quite creative and love the final image. Did you have to lay on the sidewalk?

No Carly -- just pointed camera straight on tripod. It was a wide angle lens.

To me, the image shown does not highlight any depth of field. Were to trying to demonstrate a shallow DOF?

The Story: I was up in Bedford at an ungodly early hour shooting the sunrise at a horse farm. The sun had not yet risen but I noticed these four young men sitting on a wall. I commented that they were up early and they said that they never went to sleep. All four just graduated high school and had plans to go to college, one more presitgious than the next. After taking shots for another half hour and with the sun rising, I drove back to where they were sitting and asked them to be in my next photo. I loved the idea of these four friends with bright futures ahead of them staring at this spectacular sunrise looking to the new day and their own futures with great hope and optimism.

It's not very big, so you should be able to get wherever you want quickly. Local people will be able to make recommendations, especially the innkeepers where you're staying. Or, you could tell a cab driver that you want to do some great photography.

Thanks for the thoughtful reply!
