Hey all, I wanted to share with you all one of my favorite photos. I took this outside of Denver, CO last August, there are always these massive sunflower fields that bloom in August and the fields become almost a surreal landscape of intense color. What do you all think?

More on my blog here - http://www.iamryanwright.com/blog/sunflowers-invade-denver-international-airport

Camera Settings
Canon 5D Mk. III
16-35mm f/4L IS
1/13 sec., f/8, 16mm, ISO 50

Two exposures manually blended in Photoshop CS6

Really nice photo work!

I like the "Versus" idea - although I am already sure what would happen if I put most any of my photos up against yours in that format!

Clever domain name choice, btw...

Thank you! My first choice for a domain was already taken, I cannot believe somebody already had taken www.lik.com ;)

The point of Versus isn't to shame, besides if you and I took a photo at the same location of the same subject...it could be an intriguing Versus! Thank you for taking a look :)

Wow, that's great! The soft backlight is nice, and the white really pops against the dark background. Well done.

I'm a new-ish member, I joined last year but got crazy busy with my 9-5.

My schedule is somewhat back to normal now, still very busy but who isn't? Anyways, I launched a new blog and I would love some feedback. My goal with the blog is to provide resources, tutorials, interviews, and (hopefully) insight about photography for others.

http://www.iamryanwright.com

I'm trying to make it fun too, I started a series called Versus where I pit two of my photos against each other and people say which one they like better. I'm interviewing some photographers that I know and having people write guest blogs about photograph aspects that I'm not as skilled at. One of my good friends has published a book about macro photography and she is going to write a blog about the basics. Another good friend is a celebrity wedding videographer, and I'm going to have him write a blog about pitching and landing deals.

That's all for now, but I would love some feedback on the site.

Hope you're all doing well! :)

While I don't have any experience with birding, I'm a landscape photographer and while I have the 5D Mk. III, I think lens recommendations are somewhat universal when it comes to landscape photography.

The "L" series wide angles are all awesome. I have the 17-40mm f/4L and it's great. As is the 24-105mm f/4L IS, both are excellent lenses and probably won't break the bank (depending on budget).

I've used the 16-35mm f/2.8L on many occasions and it's phenomenal but I haven't found the need for the extra stop.

Those are my recommendations, along with pretty much everyone else.

Two thoughts for you.

If you're going to use a template site (Zenfolio, Smugmug, Photoshelter), keep in mind there will be things that you won't like. I use Photoshelter and there are things about their service that I really don't like. But when weighing options against Zenfolio and Smugmug, it made since to stay with Photoshelter. Try to create a shortlist of what is essential for you. DO NOT base it off what features are available, but what you really want and then go hunting. I used BigBlackBag for a while too.

The other though is what audience do you expect? You know your audience the best, so think about what traffic you're going to create, who is going to be searching for your photos, and what are they going to be (potentially) buying?

My websites that I manage are below. My main is PhotoShelter and I manage two other Wordpress sites. (If you have any questions, feel free to ask!)

For you current Wedding Photographers, or those from the not too far past, are you or did you use Social Media to promote your business. Specifically looking at Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr & Instagram. If You are using any other's I'd appreciate that input as well. I am looking for the input as part of my Photography Marketing Class at Sac City College. Thanks for your help!!

I don't do much in the way of wedding photography (~4-5/year) but a lot of my referrals are through social media. After I finish editing the photos and they're uploaded to my website, I upload a small gallery to 500px and then share that on all my social networks. When the bride and groom get the photos, they usually put almost all of them on their social networks but I have very little control over that.

As mentioned above, you definitely have to be careful about what you're posting and who is going to see it. A good phrase that keeps me in check sometimes is "once it's on the internet, it's there forever".

Hi Al,

Thanks for the comment. I used a Singh-Ray 3 stop ND filter on this photo. The sky really popped that morning, and the filter is still nearly invaluable to me when I'm doing landscape photography. I'd recommend any of Singh-Rays ND or Reverse ND 4x6 or 100mm filters, those are the ones that I have experience with and they are phenomenal.

Last summer, a good friend and I went to Grand Teton National Park for a week and we got extremely lucky with weather and light while we were there. I make the joke that clear, blue skies follow me around where ever I go and it was finally somewhat stormy in Jackson the whole week. My last two visits were awesome but lacked in the weather department, just nothing but clear skies.

Due to the sequestration, the road to Schwabacher Landing was closed and you had to walk a little over a mile to get there. It worked in our favor because nobody was there with us on this morning, and it's my understanding that, that almost never happens at Schwabacher.

Thanks for having a look!

I don't know how many photogs on here use any of the VSCO Film preset packs but I've found a few of them useful for different purposes. This isn't advocating that you can simply take an editing shortcut but both preset packs allow for a good bit of experimentation. 8-)

VSCO Film 01 preset pack (Portrait and wedding photography as an example) - http://www.ryanwrightphotoblog.com/vsco-film-01-review/

VSCO Film 04 preset pack (I use landscape photography as an example) - http://www.ryanwrightphotoblog.com/how-i-use-vsco-film-04/

*I should probably mention that even though these are product reviews, I do not have any affiliate links or sponsorship from VSCO

I really like the first photo, the second not as much. 0 degrees is a warm winter day where I used to live!
