Mine was a Nikon D80 recommended by a wedding photographer 6 years ago. I finally bought one, used, found on Craigslist for $225 with a kit 18-135 lens.
Still shooting with it and loving it. As it turned out the lens is damaged. You can see 2 pieces of plastic inside the lens that affect the autofocus (only when shooting portrait).
I've added a 28-70 lens also from Craigslist, this one is perfect.

D90 with 18- 105 kit because it was the best I could afford. I went in to buy the d80, but the d90 was new that week. Bought the D600 last year.

I recently bought the Manfrotto Veloce V Backpack. After organizing my lenses and equipment I realize that I need some more dividers to go in the bag.

Unfortunately I don't see any offered by Manfrotto or any on sites like B&H. I'm wondering if there are any aftermarket pieces available. I googled "Photography Backpack Dividers" and got a lot of results of backpacks available but no dividers. Can anyone suggest a resolution to my problem.

How about some bubble wrap. A ziplock with a cloth inside. Seems like you might find a lot of things around the house. You can buy velcro tape to hold something in place. May not be pretty, but functional

Good Morning to all !

Am asking for guidance in regards to my purchasing a new lens for Nikon's D800...

Today, I will be ordering a new Nikon D800 camera body, but would like to order a high quality starter lens to go along with it.. When I say a starter lens, I am referring to a lens that will have zooming capabilities starting on the low end with a focal length somewhere around 16mm and a high end focal length somewhere around 105mm or higher. Yet, my requirements or my needs for such a lens are of such whereas I want the lens to have the best glass that Nikon has to offer for a mild zoom lens within these focal length ranges..

Admittedly, I will say to you that I am not familiar with all of the nomenclature or the acronyms that Nikon gives to their lenses, but if you will bear with me/help me, I am asking for advice which will enable me to purchase the highest quality lens that Nikon has to offer in the focal length ranges which I have just listed..

As an example, I am familiar with Canon's lenses and I know that Canon's "L" series lenses are touted as having better qualities (higher quality glass) when compared to their non-L series lenses... With this said, if I can purchase a lens for my Nikon D800 and the D800 be fitted with a lens much like Canon's 5D Mark III is fitted with Canon's 24-105 "L" series lens, I shall be more than happy :)

In advance, I thank you for your responding, enjoy your day, and if you have a garden, get outside today, weather permitting, and enjoy many of the trees and flowers which are now in full bloom with plenty of bees buzzing ~ well, they are here in Ohio :)

Good Morning to all ! br br Am asking for guidanc... (show quote)

If high quality is the issue then two lenses like many have said. If convenience and good quality then maybe the 28-200.

How about this. The high Quality
Nikon 14-24 F2.8
Nikon 50mm prime, fast as you want to afford
Nikon 70-200 F2.8

I didn't buy that wide zoom, but do have the 70-200 and the 50. This works well for me.

I have to admit, I really do miss the middle zoom when inside taking pictures- I bought a inexpensive used one. The 70-200 mostly is my go to lens.

Of course if money is no issue, buy the trinity and the 50mm for low light situations. This really weighs a lot if you want to carry it all day.

I pretty much have decided to go with the Nikon d610, I'm trying to decide what lenses to buy ! I'm concerned that the 70-300 fx lense will not reach out any farther than the 55-200 dx lense on my D40x . I want to take good pictures of my daughter playing soccer . I will also be taking pictures of our puppies, portraits, birds, scenery, kids and a variety . I'm afraid that if I buy the d7100 I will wish I would have bought the d610. I'm looking for a camera to carry me for a while ! Thanks to all , Sparky54

True. BUT on my D600 and probably the D610 you can put it into DX crop mode and BAM- 1.5 factored back in. Some have said this is a good thing because the sensor now uses just the center of the optics which gives better results. So, your 300 becomes 450mm essentially. I use this feature and even add a teleconverter.

Exactly. Many options that still can be set, and many should be set, beyond simply setting it to manual. To say differently betrays a lack of understanding of digital cameras

That is a direct way of saying what went unsaid in my post

What are these "settings" that people are talking about. A camera is a camera. I have a D800E and I opened the box, put in the battery, after charging it and off I went. I dont know how to use 99% of the functions of the camera because I use the camera on manual only and I totally dont care about any"settings.

Settings on the D600 cover much more than simple manual options. Screen brightness, how does card slot 2 functions, and many more options that will customize your experience.

Everyone says ken Rockwell tells you how to set up the nikon 600 , but I can't find it on his site. Can anyone tell me where it is or where I can find a good set up for samara and 24 to 300 and the nikon 24 to 85 lens I am not sutr I have all the right settings

I prefer when somebody shows their settings if the options are also explained and why they choose that setting. This helps understand the functions and ultimately what would work best for me.

I have been doing a lot of research , currently have a d40x . I'm looking at either a Nikon D7100 or a Nikon D610 . I like to take portrates , scenery, wildlife, my daughter playing soccer and pictures of our puppies!! Please give advice on bodies and lenses that would be needed ! Thank you

I am very happy with my D 600. Moved up from the D90. The 70-200 VR II really is my go to lens. Heavy yes. Then I have the 18-35 zoom and a 50mm 1.8. I have other lenses, but this is what us use. At times I do think it would be nice to have the fx 28-300(or 200) and it would just live on the camera. Except having a 20mm for wide needs. I do use my 70-200 Zoom inside in some lowish light situations. I would make the move to FX.

Stumbled (hence the handle), knocked over tripod, broke the plastic ring on front of 10-24 lens. It is affixed by 3 screws to lens housing. Doesn't seem like it should cost a lot to repair, but the offers are high. Cannot find a parts diagram, or anyone to talk to on a Sunday. Suggestions?

Thanks.

I plan to list that same model on EBay tonight.

I went to have my hair done and my hair dresser told me they were having a yard sale to donate money to cancer victims. In this sale one of the other customers had brought in a big box of camera equipment and they had no idea how to mark it for sale. They really didn't want to put it into a yard sale knowing they would not get much for it so I offered $500 for all of it. This is what I got.
Olympus E300, Olympus E500/kit lens Olympus 14-45, Titanium Super Wide Macro Lens 0.42XAF,Yongnuo digital speed light #YN565EX, Tamron SP 70-300, tripod, several cards, batteries car charger, charger and a beautiful camera bag that converts to a back pack. What I want to know is did I do good? Will probably sell most of it but both cameras work great so have been playing a little with them.

Maybe you will sell it and donate to profits to the American Cancer Center. Just a thought.

I currently have the following:

Canon 50mm 1.4
Tamron 28-75mm 2.8
Canon 70-200 2.8 IS
Sigma 12-24mm 4.5/5.6

Now I know all about the must have 'Nifty Fifty' but lately I have noticed that it's not getting used. I have the Tamron on as my walk around lens, the Canon 70-200 for the arena/fast/low light shots, and just purchased the Sigma for landscape/house shots. I am wondering if I should keep it or if I should sell it and put the funds back into savings since I went a little over budget with the new camera body. What do you all think?

Our lens set up is very similar, except the brand. I wouldn't get rid of my 50mm. It is my fastest lens.

I believe in real life in that situation the finger would be on trigger. Makes more sense.

When the hammer is cocked the trigger is very very sensitive. Finger on trigger only when ready to pull or you might misfire and shoot the good person next to the bad guy. I keep mine chambered. If you really need to use the gun you won't have the mental and physical accumen to draw, rack one and aquire your target to orotect yourself and others.

I have a black rapid sling strap that screws into the tripod mount. I hang it at a height that I can cradle it for support and quick access. It works great. I reccomend it, but now I have seen information that the tripod mount may not be strong enough to hold it and a safety strap should be used. I would now reccomend a sling strap that mounts to the camera strap lugs.

Apparently I need to pay more attention to what I type and what spell check changes. All things being equal I am grabbing the d610. Plus the Fx d610 can be put in Dx mode and 50mm effectively becomes 75mm if I can't just walk closer for a 2nd in a lifetime shot.
