Lots of great suggestions here, but if you want to go mirrorless, I purchased the Nikon Z50 cropped camera with the two kit lenses, then purchased the 18-140mm to go with those. I took the Z50 all over Iceland with only the 18-140mm and the photos were awesome. Very, very lightweight and honestly I never missed a shot. Like you, I can't tote around the heavy gear bags anymore. The Z50 is an excellent little camera.

I will be visiting Italy (Rome, Siena, Florence, and Cinque Terre) October 3 - 18, 2023. I have a Nikon D7500 and the following Nikkor lenses: 18-300 1:3.5-6.3; 18-70 1:3.5-4.5; 70-300 1:4-5.6; 10-20 1:4.5-5.6; and 35mm 1:1.8.
I have room for only two lenses; one on the body and one extra. What combination would you recommend?

I agree with Longshadow. I had a D7500 a few years ago and almost never took the 18-300mm off of it. I'd take that one and the 35mm. That covers pretty much anything and everything you could point the camera at.

Love the image you generated! I agree with the statements made, AI is another tool we will use to generate / greatly modify photography. And we're already using it in Photoshop, Luminar, etc. May I ask what software / app you used to generated your image? I'd like to give it a try myself....

going to Iceland next August-September. Due to physical limitations need a personal guide for photography. Want to hire a photographer-guide for 5 or 6 days. Anyone have a name and a contact or two?

We just returned from a wonderful trip to Iceland in July. We used a company called Iceland Luxury Tours - their website is https://icelandluxurytours.com. Our guide was a native Icelander and was a geology professor at the University of Iceland - he's also a hobbyist photographer. The company does custom tours so he might be able to do one for you. He was a GREAT guide and a pleasure to be around. His name is Kristinn Arnar Guðjónsson. I would strongly recommend him, so maybe you can call the company and ask if he can do something like that for you. Our tour was very reasonable.

To reiterate..... Both the Sony RX-10 series, and the RX100 series have viewfinders and a "1"" sensor, and Zeiss lenses. The difference is that the RX-10 series is a large camera and the RX100 series is a pocket sized camera. If you want the highest optical product, the RX-10 with larger glass will probably be best for you. If you want portability, the RX100 series with the pop-up viewfinder is a fantastic product. I have owned both.

Ditto what azted wrote. I have both of these cameras and use them for different environments. Ex: For bicycling, I might use the RX100 VII as it's small and I can stick it in my pocket. For hiking, I might use the RX10 as it's larger and has more zoom. I also have a Nikon D780, Z6ii, and Z50 with assorted lenses but sometimes just don't want to carry the gear, so the Sony's are both awesome cameras. Caveat: For everyone who tells you the menu system is a nightmare, it's really not......it's huge, yes, but you can create your own menu with functions you use frequently and problem solved. So don't let that scare you off.

So sorry to hear you're having this problem. I am getting a new MacBook Air with the M2 chip delivered tomorrow, so following this post. I have LR two systems and my images and catalogs on an external drive. Never had a problem opening the catalog and modifying the images when I swapped the drive between systems, so I don't really have any advice to offer. I know someone on this forum posted that they had a system with an M2 chip that worked great, however, so I know it does work.

In addition to WiFi and BlueTooth, be sure GPS is turned off. I have a Z6ii and have amazingly had no battery issues at all. I also turn the camera off between each shot. I shoot travel photography (as opposed to wildlife, birds, etc. where it needs to stay on) and not having any problems shooting with one battery for an entire day.

I am not a fan of a
subscription model or cloud based.
I have looked at Luminar Neo and ON1.
Does anyone had experience with either software?

I currently use both as a plug-in to Lightroom. If I HAD to choose between the two, I'd likely pick ON1. I think it's editing capabilities are a little more robust than Neo and, while I haven't used it, their digital asset management system looks very good. I think their presets are also easier to navigate and are sorted better than Neo. And of course you can create your own and do manual editing if you don't want to use their presets. I've been using both apps for years an started with ON1 WAY back....good software, good company.

I was in Croatia in 2016. I used my 24-105 mostly and my 70-200 came in handy several times.
Underneath my photos is a small "i" symbol. Clicking on it will give the lens details.
Enjoy your travels!

We are planning a 9-day trip to Croatia starting in Zagreb and working our way down to Dubrovnik. For those of you who have been, do I need to take a wide-angle lens to shoot the Plitvice National Park? Or the walled city in Dubrovnik? I'd like to travel as light as possible, but don't want to miss a great photo op because I left a lens at home. I'm definitely taking my Z6ii and the 24-70 f/2.8. Thanks for any advice.....

Usually, my wife and I each have a backpack for our gear, but we are planning a trip to Scotland, and I want to condense everything into one bag. Below is a list of what we will be taking. Of course, it still needs to fit under the seat, if possible. I would like to stay under $250, but would go higher for the perfect bag.

R7
6D mkII
100-400
RF100-500
16-35

Maybe a second R7 if there is room.

Thanks, Mike

Like most of us, I've gone through many, many backpacks and camera bags. I am down to two: Nomatic's Peter McKinnon 25L and the Shimoda Explore V2 25L. These are smaller bags and may not bit your gear, but you can get a LOT into that Peter McKinnon bag. The Shimoda Explore V2 actually comes in 25L, 30L, and 35L so it can be sized up as needed. The Peter McKinnon also comes in a 35L version but it's too big and heavy for me. I will also say, if you're going to be hauling your bag on a daily basis, the Shimoda HANDS DOWN is "THE" most comfortable backpack I have ever owned.

Hi JC. Since I carry an iPad anyway, I use that for my trip backup. There is a simple SD card input accessory sold by Apple to make this easy. However, I have learned not to edit on the iPad as the process often results in a much lower resolution. But it’s a great way to actually preview your photos at the end of each day. Hope this helps. Do you load your images into the Apple Photos app? Or somewhere else?

I also recommend using GPS on your camera. If it doesn't have it built in there are ways to match the photos to your smartphone. GPS helps you remember at least where a shot was taken. If you don't like GPS you can wipe it in post.

Great idea. I'm shooting mirrorless, but am very careful to always turn the camera off when I'm not snapping a photo. I've gotten tremendous battery life out of my camera that way.
