Great shots, been their quite a few times. I was station at Hurlburt Field for about 14years (a little over an hour east of there in Ft Walton Beach). If you get back up that way Eglin AFB has a good musuem also. Not as big as NAS Pensacola but worth the trip. Mostly Air Force. They do have a few things of interest setting out side, SR71 and B52 and the only A10 two seater trainer I have ever seen.

If the pictures are on the computer, take note to the path of where they are. Go back to lightroom. Go to the library module. If there is a folder where you find the thumbnails right click (opt click on MAC) select update folder location follow this to where the pic are stored. If not in a folder do the same on the pictures. That should fix you problem. Next time you import take a look at the settings, ill bet something is not right or got changed

When you import there is an option at the top of the screen that determines whether it moves the files or not. If you choose Add it simply catalogues the photos but leaves them where they are. So if you did that it left the files on your memory card and when you removed it the catalog still has the preview but the originals are now missing. If you go into import you will see what option you used last time as it will still be highlighted.

If this is the case you need to put the memory card back in and move the files somewhere

You can also check in the library under Folders and see what folders LR is tracking

Been there done that. But didn’t erase memory card. I have sense adopted a method like JJestar does. I transfer all file to my folder and to external HD then us the ADD in LR to import them. This is much faster and safer. Only after I’m satisfied everything is there do I reformat the cards.

One more source is Scott Kelby’s http://lightroomkillertips.com lost of tutorials and pre-sets. He also has good books and he travels doing seminars from LR, Photoshop and other subjects.

The way I would do it. I have a folder name pictures on my MBP, within that is a folder for each year and within that for each day (The is the basic structure that LR uses) This way every thing in on your MAC. DO NOT IMPORT to iPhoto.
Yes their is a free trial for LR with MAC.
I have used LR from its beginning, to me its the best (just my opinion). But you may want to stick with Picasa, you already know it.
The learning curve for MAC isn’t too bad all I had to do was forget everything I knew of Microsoft and then ask myself how would I make the computer do it and usually that’s the way it works on a MAC. You will find it much more user friendly.

That’s not a problem at all. The only draw back will be access time. I keep about the last 12 months on my laptop and the rest on a network drive and have no problems. As long a LR knows where thy are. What I do notice is as soon as I click on the thumb nail in LR it may show missing or offline until the network drive wakes up. My drive goes to sleep when not being accessed, to solve this I go to it from finder first as LR is booting up that way it is awake when LR looks at it. You do how ever still need to keep an additional back up of your files unless you are running a RAID system, then still I would keep an addition backup in an off site location.

Your cheapest and maybe the easiest to learn is continuous lighting. These can get hot for you and the model. What will make it easier is that you can see what the light and shadows are doing, with speed-lights you can’t. Strobes would be your next. You can get a basic set starting around $300. Strobes do have low output modeling lights to help with set up, then when you take the pick the strobes go off. This is what you see the small studios in wal-mart, k-mart using. I use a type of strobes called mono lights (the power supply is build into each light), when doing still I use two lights with a light tent. Many people here will send you to http://www.cowboystudio.com I got my set from B&H.

No on the metallic. Luster is best especially if its going behind glass.

Great shot and subject. I think the cropping is good. The only thing I can see is to get all of the ear in the frame. Just my option
