Thank you Robertjerl,

I was hoping to have some personal experiences shared.

I belong to a camera club and we have an annual competition open to the public. My boss took a landscape photo with her IphoneX last summer in Colorado. It was a great photo. I printed it and entered in the Landscape category. There were 59 entries, hers was the only taken with a cell phone and she took !st, FIRST, place.

Most importantly, it will have no effect on the performance of your flash as per output, light distribution, etc- it's too small to interfere with anything.

It may come off with an application of Acetone rubbed over the spot with a soft cloth or a cotton ball.

I am not familiar with the speedlight brand in question but I can take a guess at the cause. If that diffusion panel is retractable, when it is not employed it is stored in the housing where it may have come into contact with some of the circuitry. If it is a burn, it may have been caused by coming in contact with one of the internal components that many have been heating up. If it is paint, some kind of coating or melted plastic, that too could have come off of a hot component. There are a number of parts that may have that round shape. Sometimes rapid sequence firing can cause overheating. Even if there is no overheating, there could be some adhesive, insulation, lubricant or other substance that could have transferred onto the plastic.

If the flash is operating normally, not smoking, smelling funny or making crackling sounds, it's probably OK and the black spot remains a mystery.

Acetone may melt the plastic; dissolve it.

I've gotten a gas attack and I'm looking to buy some gear that Abe's of Maine has at a very good price.

I've never bought from them before as I almost always buy from B&H, or eBay, but considering Abe's price and the fact that I can save on NY Sales tax I thought I might give them a try.

Any advice about them ?

Thanks much !

Lille

Never heard anything good about Abe's of Maine. ALL BAD!!!

I'm seriously debating between these 2 lens and need some honest info on both of them. I value the opinion of most of the people here, so please help.

I have the 24 - 120 F4, G lens. Great lens, my favorite walk around lens. Does cost around $1,000.00 but well worth it.

Is it more important to soak in the experiences of this once-in-a-lifetime or to carry around a heavy bag and then jostle crowds while you change lenses? Do you really think you'll feel regret at not getting a "perfect" composition?

Take the 24-70 and enjoy the experience of a lifetime!

I have the Nikon battery grip on my D500 and love it but hate the price. I'm considering the Vello grip for my D850 but want the same Nikon quality; any suggestions?

[quote=jerryc41]I'm getting a lens tomorrow from Hong Kong via DHL, and they require a signature. Fortunately, I can print and sign a form, asking them to leave it inside a side door. I have to sign for a UPS delivery today, but I'll be home all day. Tomorrow, I'll be coming and going. Four-day delivery from Hong Kong is pretty good, and shipping was free.[/quot

Hi Jerry, what lens did you get?

Jerry's posting about eyeglass retainers raises a question. Do you wear your glasses or take them off, when looking through your camera's viewfinder? I was setting up my wife's Sony HX-400V and she complained the view was blurred, looking through the viewfinder.

"That's because I need to adjust the diopter for you with your glasses on." I said. "But I take my glasses off when I take pictures." she replied.

That made me think a bit...I have my D5500 set up so the view is clear when I'm wearing my glasses which I've always kept on when photographing. Mostly I keep them on out of fear of losing them if I put them down somewhere for the 2 to 3 minutes my memory's good for. Is this a bad technique or simply a personal preference? How about the rest of you? Why? If it's a bad idea to keep them on, I'll go with Jerry's retainer.

I have shaky hands so with a telephoto (BIF?) I have a very hard time keeping the center spot (both exposure and focus) on the bird. I even have a hard time keeping the bird in the frame. What can I do to get a better percentage of photos with BIF in the frame and even better, in focus?

I always use a good, sturdy tripod and a good Gimbal head. Also, I am a Nikon shooter, D5 and D500. I use the Group focusing which works quite well for BIF.

If I had to pick one female jazz vocalist, Sarah Vaughn would be an easy choice.

Have a 4-H Horse group that would like pictures of their event. I take lots for my own use but would like to make them available to the public for a short period of time, do not want to deal with 100 parents/grandparents looking for a specific child. Would be at no charge by me, ideally they could simply review and download the photo they want. If they were online for 48 hrs would be long enough.
