I just wanted to brag a little. There was a contest on the internet held in Australia for the best picture of a Chinese Crested. Not a show picture all pretty and standing still but a life shot. And my picture won!!!
I know my picture is not completely clear but my dog was on the move. I am so pleased. He won a show collar that is being shipped out tomorrow :)

His feet were not cold any more with his new boots.

In three pages, there have been nine sites referenced for the OP's benefit (actually ten, but one was a repeat. I myself suggested one on Adorama's one-on-one videos by Mark Wallace, who makes videos that are simple but complete. That's an average of one reference in 20% of the responses, and there have been responses which have been helpful in themselves. Nowhere did I see a complaint fron the OP. he was given a variety of sites and/or tips from which to choose. He does not appear at all to lack the intelligence necessary to review the material and choose a course of action. If he has more questions, he is free to ask and we will be ready, willing and able to assist him as necessary. All-in-all, I think the members have, so far, done what this forum was meant to do - help others to learn. I hope the OP is satisfied with the information given and the assistance rendered. Now that everybody is doing such a good job, please let's not let what is left of this thread deteriorate into an argument. Thank you.

Whiskydog, is there anything we have missed in helping you. If so, let us know so we can dig a little deeper. Oh, welcome to the Hog!

Everyone is just so helpful I feel bad that I have not noticed all the replays..my bad... but there was no stone left unturned!

First off, send us an image shot on the (P) mode. You have a wonderful camera.

This is just a pic from the back of the 2 acres. Its a dull grey day and I have a new lens. This is taken in "P" mode. Ap. 4. iso 320 the lens in a wide angle 77mm zoom. Ef S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM. I love this lens! It grabs huge area. I have to look twice to see if I really see what I see through the lens. I can't wait to take it quading up into the mountains. OH, and I don't know if the picture will load this post... and if not, I most likely don't know how to do that :)

Bokeh does not mean what you think it means.
It's not about depth of field, it's about the quality of the blur in the out of focus areas.
You mean shallow, narrow or selective focus.
Look a few entries down this thread: http://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-131577-2.html

I just got this now...so and am impressed with the sites on Bokeh. Blurry really makes a difference when its 'quality' :) Thanks for the help.

Glad to help. I don't have in camera HDR or even auto bracketing. The only disadvantage I have is that I have to shoot tripod mounted so I can manually change my settings.

Despite being chronically cheap, Photomatix (HDR processing hardware) was the first editing program I actually paid for.
$100, usually $15 off coupons on various sites.

My nephew knows one I can download for free.... we'll see :)

HDR? High dynamic range imaging is not the same as HD video (High definition). Some cameras have in camera HDR. Yours does not. Check your manual for auto exposure bracketing. Then you'll need to combine the shots with editing software.

p.s. Bracketing for HDR is usually shot at plus one EV, 0, and minus one EV, or +2, 0, -2.
There's also a whole section of the Forum dedicated to HDR.

Thanks OddJobber  I will look at the site. I guess that is why I could not find anything about HDR

I like it. But I think to show off the texture with this composition a lot more detail would of went along way may be a aperture around 14 -18 .

But if your composition was more of the cactus from twice the distance away focusing on one spot with this dof would of looked cool also.

I also agree with this analyses. I think everyone else agrees as well. Getting the instruction is important. Understanding it makes the picture better...sometimes. I appreciate all input even thought I don't know how to navigate this site...so...this is very late in coming but I do appreciate it late or not. :) thank you.
