There are several brands available - some cheaper, some free, and of course - are you ready more expensive. I'm not giving any names nor will I even atttempt to compare since I only use one -Elements 8. I would say that like any other tool the one that may be the gold standard for you is the one that is one you'll actually use. They very in options and ease of use so even though Elements is very well know I would not say it is not the best for all, and yes some think it too much and some not enough. One thing you may want to consider is NOT to be concerned with getting the latest, just on the market of anything. Often in software and hardware the "new" is little more then a slight tweaking of the old and the old will now being sold at a discount On the otherhand it is the thrust of consumer market to always be introducing the newest and the bestest and I certianly do not want to be called unAmerican. I have added one - just because. Enjoy the day.

Gosh, I'm on a roll now, but here's another scenario of "steping on the pros toes"
I started making cakes about six months ago just for fun and family, i like anything artistic. Posted a couple on facebook-tooonnns of comments , then orders. I will be the first to say, I dont know what i'm doing, learning with everyone i make. So naturally, i see the flaws in my cakes, so I don't want to charge like a pro would. But now since I ve got orders coming in, ther's already talk abour undercutting the bakeries and taking money out of thier pockets. Come on now! I dont know, maybe once you're a pro, you become like politicians, CEO's, pro althletes, aove everyone and therefore deserve the fortunes. Just maybe, eveyones trying to get too darn rich in this country. Instead of worrying about undercutting, maybe there should be some revising on prices to allow ones work to be share by all.One work is worth what another is willing to pay fo it.

sinatra-wow, in the whole week and half i've been on this site, i haven't heard you be soo mean.I don't think any newbie, including myself, since i'm not trained from a school, advertises as a professional photographer When you're asked to shoot a wedding, surely we admit we're not professionals and i will do the very best i can, and things can certainly go wrong, even for a trained professional, but if a couple is willing to use you, knowing your experience up front, then one should go for it. That's the way you learn!
As far as under bidding on a job, surely you wouyldn't think the intrained one should make as much as the trained photographer, not until he learns what its all about. But just because someone goes to school for something, doesn't make them a pro, there's got to be some natural talent within one to do most jobs.
As far as professionals that's scared they're getting undercut-surely thier work speaks for itself/ Someone who has a few thousand dollars to pay and willing to do it, will definitely research to find the best--but on the other hand, just because one doesn't have alot of cash to throw down on a pro, doesn't mean they shouldn't have the opportunity for photos also. Don't think that pro thats been schooled and has 40,000 in the finest equipment is going to talk to the couple with a couple hundred dollars. Just saying, everyone has to start somewhere, and there's alot out there that has a little natural talent-so go ahead do what your thing--if the pros are worried, then they mucst not be as great as thier tools. This is not meant to be harsh or rude, its just my truth. I cant stand when people claim others are stepping on thier toes and taking money out of thier pockets. This world is over populated, so there's plenty to go around.

I disagree with your professor. 25 people, 25 shots, all at the same time of an old building, will bring 25 different visions of that remarkable time in history, and is WELL worth an unlimited number of photos! Just my opinion.

A professor is just another person with a belly button. Ask the instructor that told his student that the idea for Fed X would never work. It is not the one that does things the same old way that excells, but the one that breaks away from the herd that leads.

Thanks Sinatraman, You are very funny and you are making me feel better about things. I appreciate your kindness and your humor. If you think that this bouquet is large, I have another one that is way bigger. (mind you, I'm not picking out these bouquets - my brides are). Please see my most recent attachment. To be honest, sometimes these weddings go pretty well for me and sometimes it becomes all about crowd control. I really do have some problems with LARGE group pictures at some of these events. I don't know what I'm doing but I can't find a job so I'm going with it.
Thanks Sinatraman, You are very funny and you are... (show quote)

WOW , no joke, that's a huge set of flowers! How did it look before you removed color, maybe blur or crop some of the flowers-i like the pose

Thanks for the kind words. I believe you are right about the focus being on the flowers due to the color. I will try to remember your tips at my upcoming wedding. I think I need to develop a technique. I have so very much to learn. Photography is a lifelong hobby that I would like to turn into a small business. I'm afraid to stick my neck out there until I get a clue.

Go ahead and stick your neck out there, that's the way you learn. I'm no pro, just a hobbyist , but I'll tell you what I see, as I say , with my cockeyes I see crooked, and some will disagree with me, but that's why we're here.
1st-too centered, dont like the rails leading to center, little more focus on face instead of photo center
2ndToo centered-focus on face- a little stiff. tell a honeymoon joke and help them to laugh and relax-taking pictures when they dont know you are-usually the best
3rd better, eyes still seem a little dark-move camera to the right some to get chair at bottom out of picture
4th Nice job! even though its cetered, its centered perfectly with no distractions- looks like it shoud be in a catalog
5th Not sure, great focus on the soldier but maybe too much desk
6th Nice pic, too centered, if you could see just a tad bit more of her other eye would be great and soften the flowers, but i like this picture, it doesnt look sooo posed 7th grass in front distracting, and i had to look twice to see the married couple-the guy in front is a handsome lad, but remember the important ones on that day
overall great shots, just a little teaking here and there-wedding shots are telling the story of the day, so dont make them all posed pics, standing back with a long zoom lens makes for some fantastic shots-the couple will say wow i didnt remember taking those, but they will love them -good luck

Model is too dark, background out window too light. Area in red hues and area over model's head is distracting. Here is my take in a modified pic of your work. Just quickly done to show you my taste for this type of mood.

I feel you lost the soft pretty light and colors from outside-didn't really need all the area above the head in the origional, but the area outside to the right really caught my eye. Just my opinion.

:) :) :) Thank you very much. I really apreciate that you took the time to look and comment. I need all the positive vibes I can get. Where is your hometown in Texas. I spent a few years in houston but never heard of it.

You're welcome. I live in the big (really tiny) city of Kountze. Very rural area, where we sit on our porches to drink coffee and listen to the roosters crow and enjoy the smell of cow poo from all the surrounding properties. Barb wire fencing and big red barns. I couldn't ask for better, just an old homestead with peace and quite except for a few tenagers with their banging vibrating trucks, including my own son. Kountze is about 20 minutes north of beaumont, which is about 45-to an hour southeast of houston.I think.
