Anybody aware if this software is issuing a v.10 this year. They seem to have been updating on an annual basis. Also, is this the gold standard or are there other good products competing for the hobby market?? Thanx gang

There are several brands available - some cheaper, some free, and of course - are you ready more expensive. I'm not giving any names nor will I even atttempt to compare since I only use one -Elements 8. I would say that like any other tool the one that may be the gold standard for you is the one that is one you'll actually use. They very in options and ease of use so even though Elements is very well know I would not say it is not the best for all, and yes some think it too much and some not enough. One thing you may want to consider is NOT to be concerned with getting the latest, just on the market of anything. Often in software and hardware the "new" is little more then a slight tweaking of the old and the old will now being sold at a discount On the otherhand it is the thrust of consumer market to always be introducing the newest and the bestest and I certianly do not want to be called unAmerican. I have added one - just because. Enjoy the day.

Go to photoshopelementsuser.com, its a websire and a magazine if anyone would know it would be them or adobe themselves. You are right they do seem to update on a year to year and a half cycle. Im still using pse 2 and pleased with it. Yes there are other good software outthere but the reality is elements is the gold standard and outsells all others. you should consider before purchasing it just how much editing do you want to do. If you are just going to clean up snapshots, its overkill. There is a learning curve to it but plenty of free tutorials. An advantage is if you decide to go to college for photography or try to become a professional you are going to run smack into elements big bro photoshop itself. If you have mastered elements you are at least 75% of the way to mastering photoshop. Also to consider most photo magizines that have articles on photo editing give their instructions in photoshop and elements commands only. If you want the benefits of elements but dont want to pay $100 go to ebay and look for older versions used and save moola. I forgot vb bum see you tommorow at the Ir photo club? I will be in a tigers cap.

Thanx for the input on Element guys. Very helpful to one who is getting back in after a couple of decades on the bench. I enjoy both of your comments in Ugly Hedgehog and look forward to meeting you tomorrow sinatraman

I just got PSE-9. I was surfing to find the best price out there and found it for 49.99 including shipping. I ordered it from Computers Worth, Inc. This is the best price I could find anywhere.
Of course, I am struggling to learn how to use it. It is not easy, but like the other guy said, it does have lots of tutorials.
Good Luck

Costco usually has a deal on Elements the later part of the year. I got my Elements 9 last year for $49.00. It may be worth the wait.

I used PSE 4 for quite a long time, and hedged on upgrading...even after reading about the new improvements in later versions. I would say about 80- 90% of the features are the same in my newly purchased version 9, and in retrospect, I might not have bothered upgrading. It seems I could do ( almost) all I can do now, with the older version. If you have to buy "NEW" , then of course get the latest....but if you have access to an older version from a friend, etc....for free, then go that route to get used to the interface and by the time a version 10 comes out you'll know if you feel the need to upgrade.

Your not suggesting software piracy are you? If you get an illegal copy from a friend and you need assistance from adobe they wont help you if it is not registered to you. Besides they put the money in development they deserve to get paid for it. Just as if you started selling your photos at an art fair and someone came up and took a photo of your photo rather than pay the money to buy it you will be pissed. Besides rember Exodus 20:15 thou shall not steal

I have PSE 8 and bought PSE 8 For Dummies....the book has really helped me grasp the uses. I also use the tutorials that come with PSE 8. They too are very helpful.
I think any of these tools just requires one to get in there and use them. Take some time each day or week and see what you can do....plus it is fun. Still learning but enjoying.
