You can import from one catalog by pointing to another. Or, you can open the older / incorrect one and sort your entire catalog by last-edit date and multi-select those 'recent' images and export as a catalog. Then, use just that small-temp catalog as the source import to your main catalog. You'll be closing and opening different catalogs, so don't get confused, such as consider clearly naming / renaming each LRCAT file to assure the purpose of each file, then just double-click to open.

The export as catalog comes from the File menu rather than the Export dialog. The import from another catalog also comes from the File menu. If your two catalogs are about the same size with mostly the same common images, LR runs for a while comparing the images and finally gives you an option for how to import the differences. It's up to you do decide which is the easier process. Export / import or just compare and import.

Great! Thanks again!

Dude, you are worth your weight in gold! Worked like a charm.

Follow up question. The catalog in the wrong location has several days worth of work in it. Is there a way to merge this catalog into the now-correctly linked original catalog?

There are only a few images in the new catalog, so if there is much of a risk here it would not be worth the attempt. But you sure made the first problem easy to solve!

I am not sure how this happened, but recently LR started pointing to a new catalog in my C>Pictures folder. The "real" catalog containing all my images and edits is in another location. I can find info online about moving and copying a catalog, but not to simply repoint LR to the old catalog in its correct location. Advice? Thanks.

We have both a Fedex and UPS stores close to us. They are both very good at packing and sending photos and paintings flat if that is the method you prefer.

Thanks, Dave. Do you just bring the photo in and they pack it on location?

I need to send a 12x20 inch photo in the mail. What would be the best way? I'd prefer not to roll it into a tube.

Thanks for recommendations.

Thanks, Thomas! I enjoy your work, too.

Thank you so much for this! As usual, your posts are thorough, helpful, and masterly demonstrations of the art of teaching.

There are backlight options on the internet - you only need a few square inches of white background. An LED panel works well. I tried a white background using my iPhone, but the red, green, and blue pixels in the "white" source are quite apparent. You should mask all the light source beyond the edge of the slide to prevent glare. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JMS31ZSy3kk

thx!

One could also use a macro lens with a stand, capture it in raw, and then have the advantages of adjusting that kind of image.

Wow, that's outside the box. Since the images are transparent, I wonder how to handle the background. I have a 100mm macro so I might give this a try.

Don't have a recommendation, but when I had some to convert to digital, I priced several services and decided if I did a few at a time, the cost of a scanner would be far less plus I would have greater control over which ones I kept and any "tweaking" I wanted to do. I chose an Epson CanoScan 9000F that came with the trays to hold the slides. Just food for thought.

Thx for the idea!

Any recommendations for a quality service that converts 33mm slides to digital files?

Thanks.

Strange. It works perfectly for me on MacBook Air (non-M1) w/Monterey.

Well, I just discovered I was not in full screen mode. I selected that mode from the LR Windows menu and then the three sizing buttons appear when I bump the mouse against the top left. This caught me off guard as the simple view fills the entire screen, just like full screen view!

Thanks.

You are in full screen mode. Move the mouse pointer to the very top of your display.

Yes, that works in every software and browser except LR!
