On my defence on the software I didnt know which system to use and what suited me for what i want,so yes i bought one of each to yes"try out" but that was it.as I liked abode light room I went out and bought the proper system to the value of $1500.but ppl got their nickers in a twist and got blinded by what was said about the matter. Cost isnt a issue for me but weight is!

Yes, "considering what it is". Erv and I and probably a few others have this lens and it sits on a shelf.

When traveling I tend to take a mono bar or a micro pod.but from the response iv recieved I think I might after awhile throw the lense in s lake lol.it is abit of a pain to carry around such a large lense but I might stick to my 100-400 attached to my 7d which i usually use for sports.

quote=SharpShooter]JP, you probably know more about these lenses than I do.
The problem with manual focus, is the lack of a proper focus screen.
If you buy a mirror lens, it might be advantages for your camera to have live view. If the subject is not moving around, LV on 10x will probably get the job done. If the subjects are moving, at f8, focus may be pretty challenging.
My opinion is that they are probably not as bad IQ wise as they are difficult to use. Trying to get good focus is compounded when you can't stabilize a lens. If you are traveling light, you're not likely to have enough tripod to do the job. At those magnifications, even very SMALL vibrations look like an earthquake in the viewfinder and in Live View. Good luck. ;-)

Yes sorry that my own abbreviation.i have looked at msybe buying a canon eos but it felt wrong n the manual setting are to frustrating to use.

If you want to travel light, certainly the 800mm lens is your choice, but the image quality will not be close to what a good super-zoom bridge camera will get with much greater versatility. By the way, Is "mirred" your own neologism or an accepted shortcut for "mirrored"?

Ahh no thank you.

Results probably would be just as good or even better if you spent that money on a good "bridge" super-zoom camera like the SX50 to carry instead of the mirror lens.

JP, I do not know which one you got, the one I got wasn't
worth a crap, it wouldn't focus to infinity, not even close.
There is one out there for about $120 but you have to take
the back of the lens off and replace it with this one, I would
say this one works because it essentially turns your lens to
an af lens the same size as the original. I have not tried it
because I bought I bought an ef 1.4 usm since.

Oops I failed to ask my question.as our digital body usually runs the digital lense.i know the f stop, ap n iso is set to the light meter.now when u put a non digital fd lense on ur body im guessing ur light meter is nolonger functional as well as ur spot metering.non of the videos explained this n i wanted to know if anyone has tried this?

Iv done the plunge and bought a fd-adaptor for some prime lenses I was given awhile back.and as I know a place where I can buy loads very cheap if it works well ill be on a winner.my 50mm 1.4 fd seams to be quiet popular which is a gd thing snd built alot better than a teds camera canon 1.8 50mm for $500.
I watched all the utube vids before buying so fingers crossed my $50 investment pays off.
Anyone else use or have used an adaptor?

As I do alot of traveling and like to travel light iv been looking at buying a mirred 800mm lense.i didnt expect much in quality in build or picture when first read about them untill i read a review . The price, size and weight is very appealing.weighing just as much as a canon 24-70.i wanted to know if anyone has used or is using one and what you think of the lense.
Pictured,
Left mirred 800mm, middle sigma 50-500, right canon 600mm
Just to compare the size.

I did not take these photos!

Looks more like a infared shot.
KlausK wrote:
Never say never again. It depends on how much you polarize, how wide the lens is, where the light comes from and how much (if any) sky is in the picture.

If you shoot into the sun a polarizer will act like an ND filter and you can get crazy stuff like this ... (with a 20mm on full frame)

I never use a teleconverter as I find it restricts u.i get some great results . yes reach can be a issue but camo boxes work well or just stsy still n quiet n the wildlife tends to accept u.
