DNG stores the editing data in the file - RAW has a separate 'sidecar' file which can easily get separated from the original file and lost.

Have you checked for updated drivers for RAW conversion?

Hi I know that Lightroom is good for adjusting exposure etc in batches but what are the main reasons why I should use Lightroom instead of Photoshop?.
I don't have a lot of experience with LR just PS. Wonderd if I should dive into LR a little more.

Thanks for any input.
Ross.

LR has a very good cataloguing system.
LR is non-destructive editing so you can always go back to previous processing steps. The processing details are stored with the original RAW or DNG so a filed picture can be reworked as often as you want.
You can make virtual copies so are able to try several variations on a single picture.
Filters such as Topaz and NIK (Now free) can be accessed directly from LR and edits are stored in the catalogue.
Many photographers - professional as well as amateur - find they can do perhaps 95% of their work in LR.
I believe that Adobe lets you try LR free for 30 days so it is worth a try.

Would a circular polarizing filter make a big difference in the quality of the pictures?

What do you think?

Some thoughts;

1. Checkout some of the excellent videos on Youtube.
2. polarizing filters Cut out reflections on water but not shiny metal. They can also make foliage darker by cutting out reflections on shiny leaves. They can have uses on dull days as well.
3. However - they do reduce light by as much as 2 stops so your expensive f2.8 lens becomes an even more expensive f5.6 one.
4. If you had one you may use it. If you don't have one you probably would not miss it.

Electric fence?
Some have found lion crap to be very effective as it marks the area as a super predator - yes, seriously. Some Zoos and garden centers sell it.

Will be traveling to Europe this summer with a 28-300mm nikon lens and a D4 - wondering if I should just leave this polarizing filter on all the time.

You have spent a lot of money on a lens and now are suggesting reducing the quality, reducing the aperture by about 2 stops and increasing the chance of flair.

'The person getting tazed was almost always nervous and jittery with either a sense of fear or anxiety.'

I wonder why that was?

Some of the women actually looked as though they liked it!

None of the expressions were up to the one on the face of a student on YouTube messing around and who was tazed in the testicles!!

It shows how that gorgeous woman you took home with you one evening transformed into a monster the next day!
Of course the excessive booze and dim lights of the club may have helped a bit.

Looking at Craigslist, I've found a Canon 70d with a Canon 24-85 lens which the person will sell for $550. I also found a Nikon d7100, body only, in which the person will sell for $500.

Other factors: I mainly shoot my son playing soccer (high school and club), family, and on occasion landscape. I currently own a Canon T3i with 2 kit lenses I bought used (18-55 and 55-250), so I'm not tied to my current Canon lenses.

Which do you feel is the better value, taking into account prices for each?
Thank you for any thoughts you might have.

The Pros seem to prefer Canon for sports action type shots.
There could be quite some risk purchasing from Craigslist - I don't know what security they have.

Topaz Remask is a good plug-in that works well and is relatively easy to use. There are many videos on Youtube and on Topaz site that show how to use it generally and on difficult subjects such as hair or small branches. Note - it is listed as 64 bit only.
It is a plug-in for Photoshop, Elements or Lightroom but can also be used alone via a free program from Topaz called Fusion Express (Win or Mac)- lower RHS of Downloads page:

Don't forget you can get 30day free trial period - with no strings attached - from Topaz:

Has anyone read that our weather is being controlled by China or Russia? I read an article the other day stating they are using heavy metals at high altitudes which can change the weather.
I read a book several years ago on Tesla the man that created alternating current. During the last of his life he was working on a way to control weather. This was an article from Americanguns.com. Sounds like science fiction, but our weather sure has been unusual the past few years. I just assumed it was El Nino or something that is cyclic.

The 'Powers That Be' will go to any lengths to get people away from the idea that global warming is causing the weather changes!

I'm looking at upgrading my lenses to 2.8 lenses but lately have seen some comments that with todays cameras and the increased iso settings that 2.8 lenses are less necessary if that makes sense. Whats the opinions on spending the extra costs for the more expensive lenses. Is there that big of a difference? Thanks

A f4 lens with Image Stabilization will give you low light capabilities without changing ISO.
Even at my age I have taken many pictures - hand held - at 1/4 or 1/8 sec and got sharp pictures equivalent to perhaps 1/16sec.
Benefits of a f4 lens:
Much lower weight and size.
Easier to hand hold due to lower size and weight.
Lower cost.

Disadvantage:
not such a good bokah - only useful if you really need it.
Not so good to pose with - an essential for some. 8-)

Try;

You may find that Google takes you to their own software page - I had to go through Bing
