Good photo of the tachinid fly, do you have a Tachinid recording scheme in north America we have an excellent one here. What attracted me more to the photo was the plant; it looks very much like Mountain Everlasting or Cat’s-foot (Antennaria dioica )but only larger than our species

My son got a Nikon D3200 for his birthday. It came with Nikon View NX2 software, which is incompatible with Windows 8.
I told him about us "Hogs" and he will be joining in tomorrow after work and Little League games. (Remember those days).
Anyone else experience this?
I have a D5000 & a D7000, but never used the Nikon Transfer or View. I used Picasa, and six months ago bought PS6, which I am still trying to learn. Going from PC with Vista to a Macbook Pro with Retina Display, so I can take the laptop to PS6 classes.
Greatly appreciate any and all help.

Hi Bear2 I use windows 8 and have no problem using the program, Go to the Nikon web site (support and downloads) and download the latest version of Nikon view make sure it’s for the right operating system 32 or 64 bit, this is probably your problem.

Hi JH2o :) Well well I never stop learning here, I don't know why but I had always assumed Orchids were imported and propagated here. A very nice set and thanks for the information. Here is a little relevant information.

Darwin described how the relationship between insects and plants resulted in the beautiful and complex forms which natural theology attributed to a grand designer. By showing how practical adaptations develop from cumulative minor variations of parts of the flowers to suit new purposes, Darwin countered the prevailing view that beautiful organisms were the handiwork of a Creator. Darwin's painstaking observations, experiments, and detailed dissection of the flowers explained previously unknown features such as the puzzle of Catasetum, which had been thought to have three completely different species of flowers on the same plant. In addition, they produced testable predictions including his then-controversial proposal that the long nectary of Angraecum sesquipedale meant that there must be a moth with an equally long proboscis. This was confirmed in 1903 when Xanthopan morgani praedicta was found in Madagascar.

Thanks for the info Robbie7: There are 65 species of orchid in the UK plus hybrids and variants and moths pollinate a large proportion of these, some of the more attractive ones self pollinate

Very pretty. I love the Lady's Slipper.

Thanks for looking Dixie girl; the lady's slipper is also known in North America as the moccasin flower, from its resemblance to a moccasin.

A few photos of the orchid family seen in the last two month travelling in the north of England

European lady’s slipper orchid, Cypripedium calceolus, the name translates to “the little shoe of Venus”, is part of the species recovery program and can be seen at a viewing NNR from Derbyshire to Durham in late May early June.

I just thought that this would be more than a challenge as flowers and birds are rather, easy, think about something different.

OK yes I KNOW, BIF etc are not as simple, but a bird in the back garden and a flower where you don't even have to bother leaving home,............

Well JR1 I photograph wild flowers and insects for recognition purposes mainly on transects and it’s not unusual for me to walk 10 – 15 miles of rough walking. However, don’t forget that some members in this forum are not mobile enough to walk any great distance and all they have is garden flowers and they make a very good job of photographing them.
