A couple of shots from a night photo walk in Glasgow. This was extremely cold but well worth it

Just beautiful! I love them. My father-in-law was from Glasgow. My husband and I dream of visiting Scotland.

It's almost as bad as determining the definition of Art!! It's just a matter of opinion!

Art, yes, professional, no. The legal meaning of a professional is someone that makes money at 'something'. Weather it be pole dancing, public speaking, or photography. If you don't make a living off your pictures, you are not a professional photographer.

Mention of "professional" and "semi-professional" reminds me of a thread on an old Nikon mailing list. It started out by someone opining that a new Nikon wasn't a "professional" camera because it was missing a particular feature. There was about a week of ongoing argument about what a "professional" camera was. It was finally decided that a professional camera was a camera used by a professional photographer. But after another week there was still no consensus on what constituted a professional photographer...
Mention of "professional" and "semi... (show quote)

In the business world, professional anything means you make a living off of that 'anything'. I'll never be a professional photographer, but doesn't mean I can't be a good or even great photographer. People get too hung up on terminology.

It's a sign of a good photographer when you can produce good looking images from the simplest of materials. Necessity can be the mother of invention...so well done to you :-) They're pin-sharp, magical colours and tones...what's not to like.

Thank you, Rustybucket. Your looking and comments are appreciated.

Creative use of down-time. I'm like you .... sometimes I've just GOT TO shoot something. It sometimes surprises me what I come up with. Usually something I'd never tried before - light painting is probably next. Intentional motion blur of leaves in a tree won't be far behind.

The other night while I was waiting around in the hospital (by brother had some surgery) I goofed around with zooming while shooting. They didn't come out great, but got me wanting to get it great. So, that's my next goal. I just realized I really need a tripod for that one.

I did some light painting when I first started in photography and enjoyed it. I've still never tried night photography, but I'll wait until spring or summer to try that one ;). Thanks for looking.

Some days just don't go as planned. I like your first two pictures. I like falling drops of water. On the third photo, I probably would have focused on the drop at the top. So you at least got to use the camera and post some photos. Things must be looking up.

Thanks for looking and commenting. Actually I did try getting a shot of the drop on the third shot. I couldn't get in a position to get a clear shot of enough of the drop. This was leaning on the fence and I would have had to have gone into the neighbors yard for a better angle and she's not very friendly. Alas, I had to settle for the twists in the branch.
