Off to a good start, but watch your horizon and keep it level. Look at the first 4 photos nothing is level. Practice practice and more practice.

Wife would like to go to Cape Cod or into Maine for local sea food. Since I have not been up that way, I would liken some help from members in both places. I will have my camera of course.
Thanks in advance. She is big on Lobster, little necks etc.

If you are going to Maine for lobsta, you are going down east. Have not been there in some time. My family and I liked the Boothbay Harbor area. If you go up that far you must try the fish chowda at the Ebb Tide, out of this world. There are lobsta shacks all up and down the coast of Maine. Wish I was going with you! Have a great time!

What is your thoughts on this portrait.

Not my cup of tea. The planter is the dominate figure in the portrait. You have Avery pretty model but she is overcome by the planter. Try removing the planter by cropping it out.

Someone came up with a one strap anchor holder for the side camera caring strap that did not interfere with the tripod shoe
Anyone remember that?

I think Optech.com is what you are looking for.

More info please. That's exactly what I want to do. I don't think I will purchase an iPad but the process should be the same with any other. But what is it?

Sorry I can't talk about any other tablet, but for Ipad you spend $20.00 for the adapter, you can go directly from camera or from card. Could not be easier. I have about 1000 shots on my Ipad from a trip to Jamacia. Great way to review pic each day when away from home.

Transfered from camera to Ipad to you.

Very nice shots! The only suggestion would be to use a different color background such as a dark gray which would bring out the black in the belt and trousers.

Thanks for looking and commenting. Yeah I need to get some other backdrop material as I only have black at this time. You hit it right on the head. The black bothered me as well. Had all I could do to get Zig to cooperate with me long enough to get a few shots. He is a sports nut and wanted me to play football with him. After the shots we went out and ran some "plays". He is a die hard Carolina Panther fan. So when we run plays he is Cam Newton as a receiver. I call him Fig Newton when we play ball. Thanks again . Doug

I lugged my almost 5 pound tripod and about another 5 pounds or so of lenses and filters and such to the top of Loon Lake Mountain. This trail has only been open since August of this year. It was on a logging easement that is not being used anymore. Now it is open to the public. The first picture (and I think maybe the best of the day) is from the top of that mountain. I used a tripod and my 28-300mm zoom. After the hike we drove to my wife's favorite Adirondack bookstore and she shopped while I took some pictures. All in all, a good day. I'd be interested to know what you guys think about these.

Like them all. My brother and his wife have a place on Long Lake, have not been there yet. Where is Loon Lake Mt.? # 1 is my favorite, great job. Like how the clouds appear to be mountain tops.

My 7 year old grandson went to see the pro wrestlers the other night. Probably great time for a child, not my cup of tea however. He had fun! Just could not pass up the opportunity to get a few shots this afternoon. He hates to have his picture taken , so we wasted little time on these. Just funnin around. These are the only poses he would do. He posed himself. I love them all!

I'm an old guy and have thousands of 35 mm slides that I'd like to convert to digital. Tried one unit about 5 years ago on my PC and it was terrible. Now I have a Mac and would like to try again.
Any help and/or recommendations from you folks with experience in this area about the best equipment to use would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Well I can't afford the "best" , but I do however use the Epson V 500 that I purchased as refurbished for $100. For my intended purpose it is a very good, easy you use scanner. Set up on my PC was not issue either. It scans 4slides in 5-6 minutes. There is a new versions out the v600 around $200. You can also send to some labs for around .15 cents each. Have a look at the Epson site. Buy the way I have a really good time going through my old slides, brings back some great memories. Good Luck

Is there a comprehensive chart available anywhere that gives guidelines for shutter speed, aperture, and iso, given various lighting conditions or situations?

Hi all! We're going to Disney World the second week in December, and at first I wasn't planning on taking my DSLR because they can get up and walk off so easily (and not necessarily at the parks either!). My first thought was to just get a decent P&S that I could keep in my pocket, but to get one that I could adjust some manual settings I'd be looking at around $300 I figure. So instead I decided that I could just get a lens that I could just leave on my camera the entire trip for around the same amount, and just make sure my camera doesn't leave my sight. This way I can be building my collection with something that will get more use than a P&S :) Right now I have the 18-55mm and the 55-250mm lenses that came with the camera. The 55-250 is my favorite, but you have to get back so far sometimes to get everything in the picture, even at the 55 length, that I'd like to have something a little shorter. I do like the amount that I can get in the picture with the 18-55, but I prefer the quality of my pics with the 55-250. That being said, I'm thinking something where the shortest length would be maybe 18 or a little longer. It doesn't have to zoom as far as 250 though, I'd be happy with that. I don't have to have to have the Canon brand name (I know several people here use Tamron and Sigma), and I'd like to stay in the $400 or less range. I know everyone says you should master what you have before getting anything else, and I agree, I just don't want to be carrying around a ginormous camera bag and changing lenses every time I turn around. I have a Kodak z990 that could do everything, but I don't like it (even though I plan to take it as a back up or for my hubby!).. LOL! I'm open to all suggestions though, so don't hold back :)
Thanks in advance!!
Hi all! We're going to Disney World the second wee... (show quote)

Have you ever been to Disney World befor? The reason I ask is if you plan on going on many attractions, a dslr can be quite a burdon, no to mentio many rides you can expect to get wet. You might want to consider one of the super zoom such as the Canon SX50. There are several to choose fron and they are much smaller and do a very good job. Been there many times and will be going back in the next year. I will be toting my SX40. Just food for thought.

[qote=DWHJR]Thanks for your comments. I use the Epson V500 that I just recently got refurbished from the Epson site. Very easy to use and takes about 5 minutes for 4 slides. These were all done on full auto. The thing will even do photo restoration. I don't think you can beat the price, $99.00 I have done about 1500 slides so far and around another 7000-8000 to go. The scanner came with a copy of Elements 9! I have had a lot of fun so far as I can remember taking a lot of the shots.
I looked into sending slides out for scanning at .14 cents each so in my mind the thing has paid for itself already.

I have the same machine and love it. Nice work on these photos. I really enjoy going back and re- visiting the ancient days of film. lol[/quote]

Thanks Irrigator. Many times while scanning I can recall the time I took the shot. It has also got me thinking that I must have had a much better keep rate than I do with this digital stuff. I have only scanned full auto so far. Have you gotten into the guts of the system with your machine? Even if there was a decent manual to be had I would still be at a loss. I do much better working with a tutor so to speak. I think I was a better photographer with the film. I processed all my own slide except for the Kodachromes. Had my own dark room and could be lost in there for hours on end.
