I run on SD cards (8gb) and use the compact flash as an overspill facility. You know what it is like when something comes up and there are only a couple of frames left on the main card. This way it is seamless, and you can change the SD card when the pace drops. Just don't forget that you have the extra shots on the CF card though.

My first SLR was a Miranda DR back in the '60's. Good dependable cameras that you could knock fence posts in with. Mine fell off of a 3 story building, and carried on, with just a small dent in the viewfinder to show for it.

I have never cleaned the sensor on my D300s, which I have had for about 4 years now. It is now the reserve camera, but in it's day was the main one. I also have a D800, which I have had to clean a few times. This has also been cleaned by Nikon a couple of times. My style of shooting has not changed. I tend to shoot reasonably wide open, and regularly change lenses wherever and whenever I feel the need to. Otherwise what is the point of having a camera with this capability ? So, 2 things have changed. 1 is pixel numbers, which allows for even greater magnification, and 2, I now have a cat. This cat (Nikon by name, should have been Trix (Tri-x)as he is black and white, but my brain wasn't quick enough at the time.) is capable of generating an infinite quantity of fine hairs, which I suspect could be the main problem. Now, I take the camera into work to clean if need be, as there are no pets there. I have stopped using the wet method, but rely in the main on a blower and an anti static butterfly brush. On rare occasions I will resort to the gel sticks. It works for me. Don't get too paranoid about it. If you do, you will never change a lens. Just take the normal precautions and get on with taking the photographs. Do always switch off when changing lenses though. That has nothing to do with dust, but the fact that you are coupling and uncoupling various electrical contacts between the lens and the body, even potentially shorting them out. Not very sensible to do that while they are live.

I guess that makes me quite antediluvian.

Baz can you confirm that you can fire the flash off camera at more than 1/1000 of a second please.

Will check out the Phottix Odin too, thanks :)

No, at the moment all I can confirm is that the system is working. The spec does allow for up to 1/8000 I believe.

Yongnuo system is available in UK. Mine arrived this morning.
£75.99 from e-bay, for 2 x 622n's and 1 x 622n-tx. Haven't had a play as yet. That's this afternoons job.

you people seem to have no idea at all of what a high key photo is. a high key photo does not mean a blown out background

and no, AA people or any dark skinned/haired people or anyone wearing dark clothes is a high key photo

I think I have finally grown fedup with the misinformation on this site and the childish moderators in the "critique" section.

am thinking it's time to take leave of here

Bye Diddums.

Baz, just a question (s)....what is the life of the ink, how long do they archive and will it void the printer warranty?

I don't know the life of the ink. I've only had the printer about a year. I have prints hung in both lit and shaded areas with no fading or colour change to date. I will probably want to change the print before there is a change of colour etc.
As for the warranty, I do believe that there are current cases going on where the printer companies have been told that unless they can prove that the printer failure is due to 3rd party ink, they cannot assume that is so, and void the warranty.

Refillable cartridges were from e-bay. A firm in Lincs UK. They also do bulk ink. I'm at work at the moment, but I'll put up more details when I get home tonight.

I have had a 3000 for about a year now. I print A3's, and 900 x 297mm panos on it. I did have a problem with it dropping out using wireless printing, but since connecting by USB cable it has been faultless. I use refillable cartridges, and have never had a problem with clogging etc.
Previously I had a Canon printer, and this is a vast improvement. Go for it - you wont regret it.

You could try moving the sword so that you can see what it is, or taking some with the sword drawn. With a little care you may well be able to crop it out of frame for a couple of shots, just to satisfy the non ninjas. Nice capture of a young lad, and his priorities.

They are all good. I would certainly be happy with a set like these. I like 4 the best, followed by 2. I don't find the fence distracting, but feel it lends itself to the mood of the shot.
One thing the comments here have shown, is that we all see things slightly differently.

We all have pictures like that. Focus off, exposure out, cropped wrong etc. but the mental image it evokes is what is important. The connection between the subject and the photographer, that probably never can be repeated. Those photos are not for the wall, but for the quiet moments, for me time.
