I don't like they way KEH quotes you one price and then sends a check for much less.

I submitted a 3-month-old Olympus 10iii body in excellent condition -- absolutely nothing wrong with it. They quoted me $190. I sent it in and got a check for $140. When I called to ask what was wrong, and they said "dust in the lens." I didn't sent them a lens, I sent them a camera.

Learned my lesson! It was worth $50 to know that I shouldn't deal with them.

Just a restructuring, not dead yet.

That's what us Olympus shooters have been saying for some weeks now!

Bill you might want to consider the new iPhone 12 Pro...

A 47% larger sensor
A faster ƒ/1.6 lens
A brand-new ‘sensor shift’ stabilization system for low-light
ISO sensitivity is 87% higher
A new telephoto lens, reaching a new length of 65mm (full-frame equivalent)

Apple was thinking about image quality here... Rather than pushing more pixels into the larger sensor they wisely increased the size of the photosites which greatly increased the dynamic range and low light performance...

Apple realized that 3024 by 4032 resolution was more than enough for professional imagery standards (unlike camera vendors who are still trying to convince the naive to pony up for even more pixels).

I'm migrating to the Apple iPhone 12... it has now become a viable capture device which can (and does) yield stellar results...

Hope this helps Bill...
And maybe consider coming over to the "Dark" side... iPhones are now the new Force “Resistance is Futile”
Bill you might want to consider the new iPhone 12 ... (show quote)

But how much control do you have with that telephoto phone lens? The phone still controls the shutter, aperture, and iso, no?

And if you think a UV filter will make you lose light, then a high-quality clear glass filter will work very well. Got mine from Precision Camera. This in addition to the lens hood. Can't be too careful with this expensive glass!

If you are choosing between the EM1iii and the EM1x, they are very much alike. The EM1iii does just about everything the 1x does and it packed into a lighter body. HOWEVER, if you do a lot of birding, please note that the EM1iii has a single processor, while the 1x has a dual setup. That means that it can handle the new AI Bird tracking. The E1iii cannot.

Gee! If Olympus was so great why did the company fail?

Gee, did you just get here from Planet X?

The company didn't "fail," but their camera division has been hemorrhaging money ever since the smartphone market made everyone an "expert" photographer.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Nikon medical division gets tired of supporting their camera arm in the near future, either.

BIG learning curve. . .unless you have an engineering degree or can figure out Linux.

It may be an expensive iPhone but it's still a point-and-shoot.

Could it be the Nikon Coolpix 1000?

If it is, don't buy it. It loses sharpness the further you extend the lens. At full extension it's worthless.

There is no complete substitute for Lightroom, especially for the price you are looking to pay. Most cameras come with bundled software that costs nothing to use.

I just can't get my head around people who spend $100s to $1000s on camera gear and computers and don't want to pay for software . . . SMH . . .

It's not that I don't want to pay for software. I want to get it right in-camera in the first place, and if I don't, I don't want to (over)pay for software that you need an engineering degree to figure out.

Free and (fairly) easy: Lightzone, Faststone.

I could care less about sensor size. Again in case it was too complex for you it was FF vs FF.
Others got lost in the weeds justifying their M4/3 for some irrelevant reason.
The rifle was mentioned as a comparison for the real men here.

Lost in the weeds? I am so sick of the FF arguments, really, especially since you can get great if not equal results with APS-C and (dare I say it?) M43.

So, if you really want to get lost in the weeds, read this: Real men don't shoot things with rifles. Real men shoot things with cameras, just sayin.

(That goes for women, too.)

I liked the EM10 series until I realized the AF is contrast-based. A step up to the EM5 bodies gives you better AF as well as better tracking, if that is something you need.

Jim, you've likely observed by now: the longer you read UHH, the more expensive it gets. The dump your DSLR camera for mirrorless phenomena is just the latest iteration, similar to the need to replace your camera for each new incremental version number or calendar year, whichever happens first.

The idea that FF cameras are both lighter and smaller has been disproven by the facts, especially if you're shooting the premium f/2.8 and faster lenses and / or the IS-enabled models.

A mirrorless body does provide several tangible improvements, including:

- In-body image stabilization for all lenses

- Eye-tracking AF (most advanced models)

- Sharper native 'mirrorless' lenses

- Electronic View Finders (EVF) that provide more technical details in the view finder with the camera raised to your eye in a shooting position

- Integrated camera controls on the native mirrorless lens

- AF points across the entire frame geography

- Greener grass when captured with a mirrorless camera

All the other technology benefits such as higher pixel resolution, newest processors, higher frame rates, AF improvements (tracking) will also now appear first in the mirrorless models where the new DSLRs releases will slow or completely stop. Canon especially is pushing the technology envelope with new RF lenses like 600mm and 800mm primes at reasonable prices and a very compact 70-200 f/2.8 zoom that will surely put the traditional internal zoom versions out of favor.

If you've ever struggled to 'see' your LCD for image review in bright light, you can use the EVF to review image details in the view finder, including the 10x zoom into the details.

Only you can decide if you're letting a mirror hold you back from the photographer you were meant to be.
Jim, you've likely observed by now: the longer you... (show quote)

You make some good points here -- in fact, all of these -- plus the weight factor -- are the reasons why I sold all my Canon gear and went to MFT. "Latest and greatest" didn't even enter the picture (no pun intended). Maybe someday I will go back to DSLR but right now it isn't even a consideration.

I find that Gimp has a fairly large learning curve. I too wish someone would simplify it for those of us who no longer have an eight-year-old nearby to show us how to use our computers ;-)
