This sits on the hotshoe and triggers the flash

THESE are available for the TRIGGER, for most and your camera, they plug in the remote shutter release slot f the camera look in the instructions

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Wireless-Remote-Control-Shutter-Release-for-Canon-RS-60E3-EOS-600D-60D-650D-550D-/251206084319?pt=UK_Photography_DigitalCamAccess_RL&hash=item3a7d0ca6df

From what I can see this does not solve my dilemma. They both have to be attached to the hot shoe. The on camera flash will trigger the off camera flash but is there a way to use a remote shutter release at the same time?

I have recently purchased a canon 60d which i did not no its built in flash acts as a master flash and it came with a free vello freewave plus wireless remote. The reciever connects to the hot shoe. I also have began learning to use off camera flash on the strobist web site and put together a lighting kit with a sync cord to start with. Shortly after this i took a class offered by my local camera store on using off camera flash. I was only able to take the 1 st of three classes because of my work schedule but it increased my desire to learn. My question is, is there a way to set up my gear to use off camera flash and remote shutter release, as the on camera flash can't pop up with the remote receiver attached? Or is there something I'm missing?

I am no pro but after years of shooting everything, I started to wonder why my images lacked sharpness and colour, let alone composition and interest. I am a Canon shooter. I had some basic Canon zooms and a couple of Tamron lens (within my budget). I then heard about Canon "L" lens. THAT is the way to go. If you start searching the web about investing in camera gear, you will see that many people (enthusiasts and hobbyists) will suggest to invest in lenses. I have to agree. Those Canon "L" lenses are very very good. I can't afford new lens so have purchased several "L" lens used, saved a ton a money and enjoyed my photography a whole lot more. maybe your friends have some "L" glass they can lend you. IMHO, it's the only way to go before you start investing more in new camera bodies (unless you have mastered your camera body). (I have no shares in Canon....LOL!)

My question was about a lens I have ordered. L lens? Maybe in the distant future. Do you have any experience with this lens? I shoot a variety of things from candid shots of my grandchildren to buildings and bridges and how the light and shadows play off them to sunrises, sunsets and moody skies to water, whether it be the ocean or a puddle a fountain or the rain a drip from a icicle or a faucet. Whatever catches my eye and gives me pause.

Just ordered a canon 60d w/ ef-s18-200mm anyone have this lens? If so how is the picture quality and sharpness. I've heard some lenses with a range of focal lengths have a sweet spot. Is this so with this lens. I know the camera is awesome and I'm anxiously awaiting its arrival.
First off, the 18-200 kinda duplicates a lot of the range of your current 18-55 and 55-250 lenses. Were you thinking of selling them? IMO, you don't need all three. Next, when they talk about a 'sweet spot' of a lens, they're usually referring to a particular aperture opening or openings at which the lens is most sharp, and it's usually in the f/8 to f/11 range. Most consumer quality zooms get a little iffy out at their highest telephoto, and may also lose a bit of sharpness at their wide end. In other words, you may find that your 18-200 is suspect between 18 and, say, 30mm, and between 175mm and 200mm. In between, at f8 to f11, it might be perfectly adequate for your needs.

I do intend to get rid of all but the 50. My local store owner said it was a better lens than the 18-55 and the 55-250. I was just wondering if anyone has or has used this lens and how it performed for them. Thanks for the info on the sweet spot.

No offense meant to anyone , but why is it that they will go and buy a new car and test drive them first, but when it comes to a lens they want someone else to test drive it for them?
I know not everyone has a local camera store ( mines 30-45 min drive depending on traffic) but all i have to do is walk in and ask about a lens or camera and they pull one out of display or off the shelf and let me have some hands on time with it and answer any ?'s i may have and also offer the pro's and con's depending on my intended useage .
If I'm gonna be spending the big bucks I want a test drive and some answers or else i will shop elsewhere .

I did try it out in my local camera store. But a few shots checking them on a 3" LCD is not always enough and our store just recently started renting lens but so far only sigma lens. The store owner said it was a nice lens and aa great deal for both at 1199 but I found it for 100 less at b&h with some extras I was intending on purchasing anyway and no tax or shipping. Saved over 200. I know buying from my local store is important to keep them open but I emailed them about getting it at b&h price which was just 100 cheaper but was still going to spend over there price in remotes for my flash and a remote shutter release, sd card and new case. They said they couldn't compete.

I've been using a canon xs with the 18-55mm that came with it, the 55-250mm, and the 50mm 1.8 for the past 2 years. Just ordered a canon 60d w/ ef-s18-200mm anyone have this lens? There is almost always a new model being released but when the model drops dramatically in price it is in the works. That being said the 60D is still a good camera. Have fun and keep shootin'. Mike

Not planning one waiting for new model, just wonder if I should wait for a lower price. Would like to get a new lens also so the more I save on camera the more toward a new lens.

Thanks for your comments and links. I've decided to spend the extra 50 bucks and order it from best buy. It's still an awesome deal!
