I retired all of my Canon FD gear a few years ago. I kept my 50mm Macro and Auto-Bellows/slide copier. I mount my 5D MkII with an adapter which gives me a 21mp slide copier.
I do this only for my really good shots. Grandpa doesnt care if all of the half blurry shots of the grandkids have less resolution.
They send all slides to Yes Video. I called them and they said they scan all 35mm slides at 2000dpi.
Well, I guess being the new kid on the block makes it my turn in the barrel.
It was my intent to convey the premise that if one must make financial compromises, it is wiser to try to invest a little more in the glass than the body if one has a choice.

Fast, Cheap or Accurate. Pick any two.
There is no substitute for good quality glass. Invest your money in the best lens you can get. If you start out with a cheaper body you will get the best pictures it will take. When you can afford a better body, you will already have the good lens for it.

If you have time to go north of San Francisco, make stops at Mendocino, Point Arena Lighthouse, Fort Bragg(Take the Skunk train into the Redwoods.) Go north to Leggett to the Drive-thru-Tree. Come back down US 101 to 20. Then you can start working your way east to Interstate 80 & head to Salt Lake. You won't be disappointed.

A fond childhood memory.
When I was 4 or 5 years old, we would visit my uncle in Kentucky for Christmas. He would bundle all of us kids & cousins up and walk us all down to the 'Shack'. He would scoop up a big ladle of hot syrup and toss it out onto the fresh snow where it would harden like candy. All us kids would scramble for it. Nature's original 'Snow Cone.'

I grew up in Tampa 60+yrs ago so a lot of what I remember is gone. One place I would highly recommend is Bok Tower Gardens in Lake Wales. It is about 1 1/2 hour drive from Deltona. You must stay off the Interstates to see old Florida. Take the old roads like US92 thru Kissimmee.
