A number of viewers of my prior set asked to see more Duck detail photographs, so I'm posting a second set. As one viewer pointed out, the males of a species often are colorful while the females wear extremely beautiful, detailed feathers. I've tried to show this in some of the attached. I've also included a couple of species known for other than the patterns or colors of their feathers...such as the Hooded Merganser. Hope you like these....

A very fine set jak! You got most of the ducks we see on the Pacific flyway in one set, good work.

I came across two mule deer on a dirt road. When
they approached a fence line I knew they were going
to jump over. I changed my shooting mode on my
D500 from 'Qc' to 'Ch' to get the max shots per second.

Shot with D500
300mm F/4E PF + 1x4 III tele.
SS - 1/2000
A - f/7.1
ISO- 180 (auto ISO range set to 80-800).

Focus - Auto BBF, AF-C - Group.

Quick thinking, thanks for the data. Nice work and fun to see!

Nice set and good on you for the Kestrel ...I have yet to get one, maybe someday.

Thanks for the comment erbiv. For such a widely distributed species, they are elusive. Good luck in your hunt!

I can't think of a better way to spend two perfect days, and you were well rewarded, Phil! All just beautiful..and congrats on your kestrel! How I'd love to see one of those. We're supposed to have them here, but I haven't had the pleasure yet.

Hi Donna, I just notice the response I wrote to your comment has been lost in the ether or I failed to hit the send button. Kestrels are everywhere and very elusive. I can count the number I have seen, 4. Yours is out there. I also saw an American Bittern (photo too poor to show), another bird I rarely see. Those two day trips have always had their pleasant rewards but I look forward to some much needed rain. Thank you for the kind comment my friend.

Great series, Phil! I certainly share your love of the winter wetlands! Iā€™m so glad this early visit was so rewarding for you.šŸ˜Š

Thanks Carol! It is a two hour drive and I start early and stay overnight so I can have the light of two mornings and at least one evening. I won't need to work so hard at motivation for the next trip. I appreciate your affection for winter birding.

Here are a few of a dog that I photoed today for a fundraiser. She's a hound mix, and the owners hoped I'd be able to get some of her forehead wrinkles. Wrinkles or not, she was a good poser. In most of the shots, I used a black drape as a backdrop rather than depending on dark shadows to set her off.

Wow, these are really good Vicki! The drape, lighting contorl, exposure, focus and all the other technical stuff are spot on but more importantly you got right into the sweet soul of this beautiful subject. It has been fun to watch the developement of this aspect of your photography. I think portrature has much to do with rapport and I think that is what I'm seeing here.

Thanks Rob! I have another set, same day, different party on a different route that I will post. The first big storm will end this climbing season. I appreciate your visit.
