Do not despair folks.
I use Photodex Producer to make photographic presentations. Twice recently I have made presentations containing a selection of photographs several people in a group, including myself have taken. It is a great way, by means of one DVD to give each member of the group a lasting memory of an event or trip.
To fit the imaged to a 16x9 screen I have to change the aspect ratio of most images and in doing so often recompose them.
Guess whose images form the main part of the finished programme?Despite all the advantages of modern equipment, I find I have to ditch at least 60% of images taken by the others for a whole range of reasons from camera shake, impossible to use composition, out of focus images even with fully automatic settings, and a whole host of other reasons that mean the images don't reach my aesthetic or technical critique.
It could be embarrassing that the finished programmed contain about 80% of my pictures, but as many shots taken by all are from a similar position, no one has yet noticed and all think they are good photographers or my enhancement of their images in photoshop has improved the quality.
No, there is no substitute for good equipment in the hands of a good photographer and I have no doubt there never will be.

This lens looks fine. Where do you plan to go? I've done Safaris across a number of countries including Kenya, Tanzania, South Africa and Botswana. Accommodation has ranged from extortionate at Mala Mala in the Kruger to more modest in Kenya and Tanzania. By far my most favourite was with Capricon Safaris in Botswana, where the animal count was amazing. This type of trip though requires the ability to get back to nature and can go for days without seeing anyone other than those in your group. You will camp out amongst the animals, shower with a bucket shower in a shower tent and the toilet will also be fitted over a hole in the ground in another tent. You even get to sleep outside one night on an Okavango island. All meals are in a mess tent with a camp fire nearby. There is just nothing to stop animals coming into your camp apart from your fires. In one location hyenas raided our camp, but got chased off by staff. Dick Hedges has been running this type if safari for many years and are experts in what they do. Off all the safaris I have done, the one with Capricorn far outweighs all the others. However if you are not prepared to go back to basics and party members want to dress for dinner and lipstick and pearls are involved, this type if safari may not be for you. Choose what you think suits your style and you are unlikely to be disappointed. Good luck.

This thread is quite worrying. I thought the whole purpose of a password was to prevent access to those who do not know it. This security is completely breached and quite useless if, for a small payment, it is possible to buy software that gets round this alleged security.

Whilst I cannot assist with computer password recovery, if you have a Smartphone I would recommend downloading the app 'Ipin.' This is a super secure application that allows you to store such information. You need only recall one code to access all. This app has a very high star rating and I have been using it successfully for months now. I have even got friends to try and access the programme, but no one has even come close.

I always ask the question, where are you going? If you are going to a private reserve you will be very likely to get closer to many, if not all of the animals. If you are going to a public authority controlled area, like many in Kenya and Tanzania for instance, where safari vehicles are not permitted to leave recognised roads, you will be far less likely to get really close and this of course makes a big difference when selecting lenses to take. A couple of weeks ago I was in the Kruger National Park in South Africa and came across an elephant that was standing too close to compose all of it in the frame with an 18mm lens

I just cannot believe that my silly little original quip led to all this!

Down here in South Africa it is often best to turn on the taps first. Then allocate the usually interchangeable tabs with the H and C letters on according to what temperature the water is that comes out of each one. Usually hot is on the left and cold on the right, but a number of South African plumbers either do not know of this protocol or don't bother to follow it. It's a wonderful country but if you get frustrated by such things as the perforations in double sheet toilet rolls not matching up for the whole of the roll, life can get maddening. I spend six months of each year here near to Stellenbosch and the best advice I ever had was, 'throw away your watch and keep smiling'. It keeps you sane and reminds you to love life all over again.

So when did you have the sense of humour labotomy. I had hoped my comment would be seen in the way it was intended, i.e. as being humourous. Anyway, if you want to be rude and offensive to an Englishman the spelling of the word is Arsehole not Asshole.

Both in the UK and South Africa we have these devices over kitchen sinks and bathtubs and bathroom sinks that we call taps. If you turn on the one with a 'C' on it, cold water flows from it. If you turn the one with 'H' on it hot water flows from it (provided the water heater is turned on). You can also get 'mixer' taps that mix both hot and cold together from one outlet. We find them far more useful and convienient than getting water from wells in the garden or the local river and then having to heat water over an open fire.

To commemorate the passing of Hugo Chavez, I have had his initials engraved on the taps at my house

No, I don't give a shit about the USA and those there with a gunslinging mentality. At least in South Africa and the UK they are concerned about gun crime and are trying to stop it, unlike you clowns who write such crap on here and do bugger all to stop the massacres of kids and actually support policies that will make things worse, as a result of your stupidity. You will never see how stupid you and your gun laws look in the eyes of the rest of the World unless you get out of your county and take a wider view, but as a smaller percentage of you have passports than in almost every other country in the World, that's not likely either. What a load of tossers you are!

I agree with the Yank. Leave 'em to it. They love their annual massacre of school kids. It gives 'em something to wear their hearts on their sleeves over and to get all emotional about infront of telly cameras for the rest of the World to see. They ain't going to change so let 'em get on with it. They know what the answer is, they'll listen to no one, so why should we across the pond give a rats arse about 'em.
